AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI , AMENDING THE CODE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, 1978, BY REPEALING SECTION 2-5 RELATING TO NEPOTISM AND ENACTING A NEW SECTION 2-5 IN LIEU THEREOF. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI , AS FOLLOWS : Section 1. Section 2-5. Nepotism, is hereby repealed and a new Section 2-5 enacted in lieu thereof to read as follows: (a) Definitions. For the purposes of this section, the following terms shall have the following meanings: • Officials: The Mayor, City Attorney, City Councilmen, City Assessor, City Treasurer, City Collector, Municipal Judge, City Clerk, Director of Public Works, Planning Director, Police Chief, Fire Chief, Transit System Manager, Street Commissioner, and Sewer Commissioner. Relative: Father, mother, son, daughter, grandfather, grandmother, grandson, granddaughter, brother, sister, half brother, half sister, uncle, aunt , niece, nephew, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law or brother- in-law. (b) Prohibition — Generally. No official shall employ any person on behalf of the City who is arelativrz of any official of the City, while such official is still receiving any remuneration from the City. No relatives shall be within the same department. (c) Upon receipt of information that a relative of an official has been employed by the City, or more than one relative has been employed within the same department, the Mayor shall notify such official and relative(s) within five (5) days. If, after an investigation, the Mayor determines such fact to be true, he shall order such person(s) dismissed. (d) The provisions of this section shall not apply to any person employed by the City before September 1, 1979. Section 2.
