Councilman Haar moved that John A.Bergman be appointed Ass$T to the Supt of Public Works, and also Building and Plumbing Inspector, Councilman Young second$d and the motion passed. Councilman Logan moved that the salary of W.J.Bryan be paid to. May 31st, 1939 and that John A Bergman take office on May 15th, 1939, Councilman Haar seconded and the motion passed. There.beingn• further business Council adjo cal of the tor. 1.i /I A A / 164 ou m].r 187 Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, May 30th, 1939. 1 special meeting of Councilwas held to -day at 4 :30 p.m.,and was attended by Mayor Righton, who presided, and Councilmen Cann, Logan, IILovell, Young, May and -Haar, A.F.Selms, T.B.McCarrol and J.J.Owens. 1 Mr. Solms stated that he was objedting to cutting down the width of the drive west of the parking areas from 16th to 18th streets to less than 30 feet, and if necessary to stop it would resort to legal means, after some discussion Mr. Solms was excused. Councilman Cann moved that the drive be left as it is now 30 feet wide for the movement of vehicles and 5 feet additional for a sidealk, providing that itcdoes a"nWiaerfett7with:the.plans of WPA, Councilman Haar seconded and the motion passed. Mr. MoCarroll stated that he objected to closing at 2:00 a.m., as it hinders his business, Mr. Owens voiced his objection also, .after which both were excused. Council after some discussion referred the matter to the Police Committee with power to act and to use their discretion. Proper closing hours for the merry -go -round were discussed and it was decided that music could be played on it until 10:OOp.m., and that the ride would have to close at midnight. Mayor Righton informed Council that the County Commissioers notified him that.they would no feed the mules at the convict camp after June let, that he handled the matter wtth them and they rescinded the order and agreed to feed them for several months longer. Mayor RiQ:hton informed Council that he met the new Health Officer Dr. C.C.Hedges and that he was very interested conditions on the island. Mr. D.J.Sheehan petitioned theri'own to purchase a lot on Tybee Inlet from him that he recently acquired due to its having.a sewer line 188 emptying into the river running through it. The matter was raferred to the Town Attorney. Permission to erect a marquee over the entrance to their place of business, (the Strand Hotel), was granted to Lamas Bros. provided that the construction fog of fireproof materialw. AN ORDINANCE TO BE ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE TO PROHIBIT ANY PERSON TO BE INTOXICATED IN ANY STREET AND /OR AUTOMOBILE IN THE TOWN OF SAVANNAH BEACH, TYBEE ISLAND: TO PROVIDE A PENALTY THER1I'FOR AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES. SECTION 1. Be it ordained by the Mayor rnd Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in Council assembled and it is ordained by the authority aforesaid that it shall be unlawful for any person to be drunk,intoxicated, under the influence of intoxicat- ing liquors or to be drinking alcoholic or intoxicating liquors upon the streets, lanes, roads and alleys within the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island; and it shall be further unlawful for any person to be drunk, intoxicated or under the influence of intoxicating liquors.to excess in any motor vehicle upon the streets, lanes, roads and alleys within the corporate limits of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island and same is hereby defined and declared to be inproper, indecent, or disorderly conduct and injurious to the public morals and public safety of the citizens of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island. SECTION 2. Any person convicted.of any of the foregoing offenses offenses in the Recorder's Court of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, shall be subject to be fined in the sum of not more than One Hundred ($100.00) Dollars or to be imprisoned not more than Thirty (30) Days, either or both or any part of either or both, in the discretion of the Court. .SECTION 3.
