Savalnah Beach, Tybee Island
June 2nd, 1939.
The regular meeting of Council washeld to -day at 4:30 p.m., in
the Council Chamber, andAwas-t-- attended :byT!ayor °aighton, who
presided,, and',Councilmen Cann, Logan, Lovell, May, Young, Haar
and Town Attorney Dutton.
The minutes of the meetings of May 1st, 5th, 12th, and 30th,
were read and approved.
Councilman Cann nominated Dr. C.C.Hedges, as Health Officer,
subject to the approval of the Mayor, Councilman Logan seconded
and the motion passed.
The matter of back salary claimed by Mr. F.P.Mclntire was dis-
cu:sed, Councilman Young made a motion that the claim be denied
Councilman Haar seconded and the motion passed.
Councilman Lovell moved that effective May 1st, 1939, no convicts
be permitted to do any private work for anyone, this to contiiue
in force until October lst, 1939, Councilman Young seconded
and the motion passed.
Mr. CH.Schroder requested a sidewalk be built running parallel
to First Street from Third Avenue to Butler Avenue. The matter
144121 referred to the Public Works Committee to investigate and
report back.
ln. the 'matter *f . the request of Mr. M. W. Dixon, jr . , that the
Town turn over to his Mother, Mrs. James M.Dixon, lots 57 -58-
59, ward 3, it was the opinion of Council that Mr. Dixon get
in touch with the Town Attorney with facts to prove his claim
to this property.
Councilman Haar moved that the period for allowing the 20%
discount for payment of 1939 taxes be extended to July 15th,
Councilman Logan seconded and the motion passed.
Councilman Lovell moved that all bills covering materiald
,, purchased for use of the Town prior to May 1st, 1939 be paid
provided that same were approved by the Clerk of Council, the
amount of which is approximately $1600.00, Councilman Young
seconded and the motion passed.
Councilman Haar moved that Mrs. W.J.Bryan be permitted to
live in the house, owned by the Town, that she now occupies June lit,
provided that she pays a rental charge of $15.00 per month,effective
by the month, with the provision that a 60 day notice of
removal be permitted. Councilman Lovell seconded and the
motion passed.
Councilman Lovell moved that effective July 1st, Mrs. Eugenia
Willis be notified that she will be charged $15.00 per month,by
the month, with a 60 day notice of removal, Councilman Young
seconded and the motion passed,
Councilman Cann moved that petition to install a minature
roullette wheel be denied, Councilman. Councilman Haar seconded
and the motion passed.

Councilman Cann moved that the necessary uniforms needed for
the Police Dept, costing appromimately $ 80.00 be purchased.
Councilman Young seconded and the motion passed.,
Councilman Young moved that John A.Bergman, Asst Supt of
Public Works, be allowed 15 gallons of gasoline per week to
be used in connection with his town duties. Councilman Lovell
seconded and the motion pssed.
Councilman Cann moved tkgatTown Attorney be instrnct=d to take
up with Congressman Petersen the matter of having thatever land
the Coast Guard does not need for the proposed Coast Guard
Station returned to the Town, Councilman Haar seconded and the
motion passed.
The Town Attorney gave as his opinion that the claim of Mr.
D.J.Sheehan that the Town pay him $1£50.50 or remove the sewer
line running under his lot 35 -a, ward 6, be denied.
A communication was read from the Trinity Church thanking the
Town for paving Second Avenue from 7th to 8th streets, and re
questing that shell also be laid on the eastern side of this
street to accomodate the people attending services. The mater
was referred to the Public Works Committee with power to

The regular meeting of Council was held to -day in the Council
Chamber at Savannah Beach, at.74:30 p.m., and was attended by
Mayor Righton, who presided, and Councilmen Lovell, May, Young,
"Logan, Cann and Haar, Town Attorney Dutton and J.G.Miller,
A.F.Solms, J,A.BrOtne.
Messrs. Miller, Solms and Browne appearing as a committee of
the S.B.0 of C. requested that the Tow let them $1000.00 to
$1500.00 that it was understood was to Burned over to the .0 of
C for use in connection with their 1939 advertising cam'ppign,
the committee stated that the C of C had incurred considerable
indebtedness putting up large bill bards adevertising Savannah
Beach, and they were being pressed for the money by the several
parties interested. After some discussion the committee was
excused with the advice that the matter would be referred to
Chairman Cann of the Fina.nace Committee, who informed the
committee that he would let the Mayor know how far the Town
could go in making an expenditure.
The minutes of the meetings of May 1st, 30th and June 2nd,
were read and adopted.
Mayor Righton informed'Council that he had taken the matter
up with Col Barton, C.O. of Fort Screven, of borrowing two
mules to be used in underbrushing the island and that Col
