AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE
RESULTS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION OF CITY COUNCIL FOR CITY
COUNCIL PLACE 1, CITY COUNCIL PLACE 3, AND CITY COUNCIL
PLACE 5, HELD SATURDAY, MAY 6, 2017.
WHEREAS, the General Election of 2017 was held in the City of Richland Hills, Texas on the 6T"
day of May 2017, for the purpose of electing persons to the positions of City Council Places 1, 3, and
5, as provided by the City Charter; and
WHEREAS, it is hereby found and determined that notice of the election was duly given in the
form, manner and time required by law, and said election was in all respects legally held and
conducted in accordance with applicable laws of the State of Texas and the proceedings governing
the holding of such elections; and
WHEREAS, such canvass shows the following results:
City Council, Place 1 Number of Votes
Larry Thayer 148
Andy Baugh 65
Travis Malone 188
City Council, Place 3 Number of Votes
Curtis A. Bergthold 267
Javier Alvarez 123
City Council, Place 5 Number of Votes
Athena Campbell 200
Gary L. Patterson 68
Douglas Knowlton 129
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
RECITALS FOUND TRUE
All of the recitals contained in the preamble of this ordinance are found to be true and are adoptadas
findings of fact and a part of this City Council's judgment.
SECTION 2.
ELECTION CANVASSED AND DECLARED EFFECTIVE
It is further found and determined that the results of the election are as canvassed and tabulated in the
preamble hereof and in Exhibit "A" attached hereto. The City Council further finds the following:
GENERAL ELECTION
Travis Malone
has been elected to City Council, Place 1
Curtis A. Bergthold
has been elected to City Council, Place 3
Athena Campbell
has been elected to City Council, Place 5
SECTION 3.
CITY SECRETARY TO RECORD ELECTION RESULTS
The City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to make the appropriate entries of information
appearing in the tabulation of precinct results shown in Exhibit "A" attached hereto in the election
register maintained by the City in accordance with provisions of Section 67.006 of the Election
Code.
SECTION 4.
CITY STAFF TO TAKE NECESSARY ACTIONS TO GIVE EFFECT
The City Manager, City Secretary, and City Attorney are hereby authorized and instructed to take all
actions necessary to give effect to this ordinance and the election, as provided bylaw.
SECTION 5.
EFFECTIVE DATE
This ordinance shall be effective upon its adoption.
