Councilman Lovell seconded and the motion pssed. Councilman Cann moved tkgatTown Attorney be instrnct=d to take up with Congressman Petersen the matter of having thatever land the Coast Guard does not need for the proposed Coast Guard Station returned to the Town, Councilman Haar seconded and the motion passed. The Town Attorney gave as his opinion that the claim of Mr. D.J.Sheehan that the Town pay him $1£50.50 or remove the sewer line running under his lot 35 -a, ward 6, be denied. A communication was read from the Trinity Church thanking the Town for paving Second Avenue from 7th to 8th streets, and re questing that shell also be laid on the eastern side of this street to accomodate the people attending services. July 7th,'1939. The regular meeting of Council was held to -day in the Council Chamber at Savannah Beach, at.74:30 p.m., and was attended by Mayor Righton, who presided, and Councilmen Lovell, May, Young, "Logan, Cann and Haar, Town Attorney Dutton and J.G.Miller, A.F.Solms, J,A.BrOtne. Messrs. Miller, Solms and Browne appearing as a committee of the S.B.0 of C. requested that the Tow let them $1000.00 to $1500.00 that it was understood was to Burned over to the .0 of C for use in connection with their 1939 advertising cam'ppign, the committee stated that the C of C had incurred considerable indebtedness putting up large bill bards adevertising Savannah Beach, and they were being pressed for the money by the several parties interested. After some discussion the committee was excused with the advice that the matter would be referred to Chairman Cann of the Fina.nace Committee, who informed the committee that he would let the Mayor know how far the Town could go in making an expenditure. The minutes of the meetings of May 1st, 30th and June 2nd, were read and adopted. Mayor Righton informed'Council that he had taken the matter up with Col Barton, C.O. of Fort Screven, of borrowing two mules to be used in underbrushing the island and that Col 191 Barton was very co- operative, he also stated that he had han- dled with Mr. Houlihan, Chairman of The County Commissioners the apparent labk of co- operation, particularly from Mr. Burns the new warden, Mr. Houlihan informed at the matter would be adjusted. The Town is way bbhind in its schedule of cleaning up the island and he was in favor of thaoTown purchasing the proper mechanized machine that could quite a bit of the work of underbrushing, ect., that is now done by the convicts and whtth is very slow. Councilman Cann moved thatia committee consisting of the Mayor and Councilmen Logan and Lovell, be appointed to look into the matter of getting a mechanized machine suitable to do the work required, and that they be given power to,act, Councilman Young seconded and the motion passed. Mayor ggI�••tan informed Council that he had discussed the matter of the�ru44nishing Mrs. Willis with a house, rentbfree, with Mrs. Heard, the Assn. Supt of the Board of Education, and she stated that arrangements had been made with Mrs. Willis by the B of E to have her furnihhed with a house at the time that she was transferred to Tybee, she stated that Mrs. Willis would be hard to replace and that the rent that the Town would derive by charging her rent would not be worth it. Councilman Cann moved that the Mayor handle with the proper committee of the B of E, Councilman Harr seconded and the motion passed. The Mayor iri'ormed Council that water rpports recently re- ceived from Atlanta showed that colon bacili was det4cted in the water, he would have the main tank emptied and purified and then have another sample taken. The Mayor informed Council that he had requested Mr. Joe Espy of Espy and Co., to check the insurance policies of the Town with a view to reducing.the cost and requested that Mr. Espy be appointed insurance adjuster for the Town. Councilman Haar movrci. that Mr. Joe Espy of Joseph Espy and Co., Inc., be appointed insurance adjuster of the Town Councilman Logan seconded and the motion passed. The Mayor stated that he had authorized Mr. Broughton in charge of the new Town Hall to have the floors smoothens and sanded, the question of chairs for the audtbtorium was j.iscudsed, also the matter of completing the installation of the heating system. Councilman Cann moved that the matter of installing the hating system be referred to the P.W.Committee, Councilman Haar seconded, and the motion passed. The Mayor requested the Town Attorney to advise him if it was necessary to pass an ordinance to renote the myrtle bushes on the ocean side of Butler Avenue. Mr. Dutton stated that arrangements had beenmade with thetRed Cross Life Saving Corps to furnish 4 life guards on week -ends and holidays for patrol duty on the beach. Mayor Righton stated that he had au'tbrized the feeding of these guards. Councilman Young moved that the assessments on lot 36 -b, ward 2, on improvements, in the name of Elizabeth R.Kreitzer, be reduced $500.00, Councilman Haar secodd.ed and the motion passed. 192 A grass fire occursing on the night of July 4th in the neighborhhod of W.J. Bremer and Dr. W.B.Crawford caused considerable excitement before it was finally extinguished, the volunteer fire department answered the call promptly and did an excellent job of putting it out. The Clerk was instructed to write aletter to the fire department, thank- ing them for their fine co- operation. Councilman Young moved that he purchase a: new beer license for $50.00 Councilman Haar seconded and the motion passed. A petition was read from Mr. B.J.Carbo compaaining about the nuisance created by the music box across the street drom his place of business. The Mayor informed Council that Major Blun of the Board of Education had told him that Mrs. Willis wolld pay rent for the house occupied by her at the present time. Councilman Cann made a motion that the sign on top of the pergola on Butler Ave at Atlantic Avenue erected by the Seabreeze Hotel be removed, Councilman Logan seconded and the motion passed. Mayor Righton again called attention to the encroachments on the streets of fences, ect. Mayor Righton informed Council that he had been notified by the Cognty Commissioners that they would not geed the mules after September lst. A bill was submitted by Hotel Tybee for feeding some of:the Red Cross life guards at a cost of $1.00 per meal, Mr. Dutton stated that he had agreed on a price with Mr. Brown of .75z per meal. Mayor Righton stated that he thought this too high.
