AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AMENDING THE
CODE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, 1978, BY REPEALING SECTION 2-5
RELATING TO NEPOTISM AND ENACTING A NEW SECTION 2-5 IN LIEU
THEREOF.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 2-5, Nepotism, is hereby repealed and
a new Section 2-5 enacted in lieu thereof to read as follows :
(a) Definitions. For the purposes of this section,
the following terms shall have the following meanings:
Elected City Officials: The Mayor. , City Attorney,
" City Councilmen, -City Treasurer, and Municipal.
Judge.
Relative: Spouse, father, mother, son, daughter,
grandfather, grandmother, grandson, granddaughter,
brother, sister, half brother, half sister, uncle, aunt,
niece, nephew, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-
law or brother-in-law.
Appointed City Officials_: City Administrator,
Director of Public Works, Police Chief, Director of
Planning and Code Enforcement, Finance Director, City
Counselor, Director of Transportation, Fire Chief, and
City Clerk.
(b) Prohibition - Generally. No official, elected or
appointed, shall employ any person on behalf of the City
who is a relative of any elected official of the City
while such elected official is still holding the elected
office for the City.
(c) Upon receipt of information that a relative of an
elected official has been employed by the City, or more
than one' relative has been employed within the same
department, the Mayor shall notify such elected official
and relative(s) within five (5) days. If, after an
investigation, the Mayor determines such .fact to be true,
he shall order such person(s) dismissed.
(d) The provisions of this section shall not apply to
any person employed by the City before September 1, 1979.
(e) All appointed City officials will be subject to
the provisions of the Personnel Rules and Regulations
adopted by Ordinance
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and approval.
