HomeMy Public PortalAboutGAC Minutes 1988 10/11Golf Course Advisory Committee October 11, 1988 7:30 P.M. Present were committee members. Williamson, McCarty, Engen, Collins also present were John Drips, Craig Jackson and Bud Schmidt. OLD BUSINESS: Minutes from previous meetings ( September 13 & August 18) have yet to be reviewed, they will be approved by the committee, at the next regular meeting. NEW BUSINESS: 88-89 Budget: The committee reviewed the revenues & expenditure of the FY 89 budget. The members felt that there may be a need to increase the budget amounts in the Personnel Services and Services/Supplies areas. The committee directed Superintendent Jackson to detail the allocation of the fertilizer/soil amendments and man hours for a budget increase as was discussed. He will report back to the committee on its November 8, 1988 meeting at which time the committee will consider making a recommendation to the city. GOLF COURSE UPGRADE?IMPROVEMENTS?MAINTENANCE: The committee discussed the need for course upgrade, improvements and maintenance in the following areas and golf holes if we are to have a good course. 1.) French drains/sumps: #1,4,5,7,9,10,11,12,14,16,18- mainly in front and sides of greens. 2.) Ponds: Remove cat-tails/weeds; holes 2,9,13 Deepen: #2,11,3 Enlarge:#9 3.) Tee Boxes: #1,2,3,6,8,9,10,11,14,16,17,18- this involves mainly turf improvements by see or soil, or leveling or top dressing, or improved soil and combination of all five. 4.) Greens: #2,3,4,5,6,8,11,13,16,17,18- this includes not only the putting surface, but turf area adjacent to them; improvements involve items similar to those for T-boxes. 5.) Fairway: #3,4,12,13,6,8,14-3,4,12,13 Fairways could be major capital improvement projects. 6,8,14, fairways would be similar to the efforts involved on the T boxes and greens. 6.) Fence: Fencing to assist in controlling snow machines and ect... The committee requested John Dripps, and Jackson to discuss and list priorities from areas of concern listed above. This prioritized list will be discussed at the next committee meeting. John Dripps suggested the drainage work (see item 1 above) begin this Fall. After further discussion, Engen motioned to do the drainage work in the amount of $4,500 or less in from of those greens that required drainage, Collins seconded the motion and all were in favor. TOURNAMENTS (Two Man Best Ball) Drips asked the committee for their approval to move the best ball from the llth and 12th to the 18th and 19th of June. Engen motioned to reassign the best ball during the weekend of the 18th & 19th. De Ette McCarty seconded the motion the committee agreed unanimonsly. There may be a meeting November llth if notified by Williamson or Hormenchea, otherwise meeting will be the regular monthly meeting November 8, 1988 (2nd Tuesday of the month).
