RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE BOROUGH'S REQUEST
FOR AN NJDOT GRANT EXTENSION
RE: CARTERET AVENUE EXTENSION
WHEREAS: the extension of Carteret Avenue from Roosevelt Avenue to Industrial
Highway is a project funded by the NJDOT Division of Local Aid and Economic
Development, identified as PRO - 2020 - 00281; and
WHEREAS: the scope of work requires the acquisition of right -of -way from the
property owners of various parcels; and
WHEREAS, the Borough introduced Ordinance #21 -3 authorizing the acquisition of
these properties on March 4, 2021 and formally adopted on April 8, 2021; the Borough is
engaging with property owners to acquire the necessary ROW; and
WHEREAS: the extension of Carteret Avenue requires the relocation of utility poles and
underground utilities and utilities companies have noted delays in utility relocation due to
the pandemic that may further affect the schedule of the relocation work; it is anticipated
that the pole removals and relocations will be completed prior to construction; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVBED that it is the Borough's understanding that these
circumstances meet the criteria for granting an extension to award the contract according
to those set forth in the State Aid Handbook.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret
support the request for a 6 month extension for the award of this project as it is in the best
interest of the project.
