AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE NUMBER 6850, BEING SECTIONS 660
AND 663, DEFINING A CANVASSER OR SOLICITOR AND PRESCRIBING THE
r IOUNT OF THE FEE TO BE PAID TO OBTAIN A LICENSE TO CANVASS OR
OLICIT', AND ENACTING TWO NEW SECTIONS TO BE KNOWN AS SECTION 660

,*TION 1. Ordinance Number 6850 of the City of Jefferson, Missouri ,
nacting Section 660 and subparagraph (a) of Section 663 of the
evised ordinances of the City of Jefferson, 1956, defining a canvas e
r solicitor and prescribing the amount of the fee to be paid to
pbtain a license to canvass or solicit, be, and the same is hereby,
epaled.
ECTION 2. There is hereby enacted a new ordinance to be known as
ection 660 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Jefferson, 1956 ,
efining the words "canvasser or solicitor" which shall read as
011ows:
"Section 660. Definition. (a) A Canvasser or solicitor is defined
I any individual, whether a resident Of the Citv of
'or not, traveling either by foot, wagon, automobile, motor truck or ,
other type of conveyance, from street to street, from house to
house, from place to place, taking or attempting to take orders for '
sale of goods, wares or merchandise, or personal property of any
,!nature whatsoever, for some future delivery, or for services to be
(performed or to be furnished in the future, whether or not such in-
dividual has, carries or exposes for sale a sample of the subject
matter of such sales or whether he is collecting advance payments on
such sales or not, provided that such definition shall include any !j
person who, for himself or another person, firm or corporation hirer;,
leases, uses or occupies any building, structure, tent, railroad boX
ar, boat, hotel room lodging house, apartment, shop or any other
lace within this city for the sole purpose of exhibiting samples
and taking orders for future delivery. ?�

(b) A canvasser or solicitor is further defined as any i
ndividual, whether resident of the city or not, who, for himself o�t
erself or any other person, firm or corporation, hires, leases, �!
ses or occupies any building, structure, tent, railroad box car,
oat, hotel room, lodging house, gpartment, shop or any other place ,
within this city, for the purpose of taking or attempting to take jl
rders for the sale of goods, wares or merchandise, or personal j
roperty of any nature whatsoever, for future delivery, or for
ervices to be performed or furnished in the future, by the use of aj
elephone and the placing of telephone calls to persons living or
esiding within the City of Jefferson; provided further that it

ECTION 3. There is hereby enacted a new section to be known as
ubparagraph (a) of Section 663 of the Revised Ordinances of the

which section shall read in words and figures as follows:

'Section 663. Fees. -- (a) . The license fee which shall be charged'
I P y the license inspector for a license to conduct business as a
anvasser or solicitor, as defined in subparagraph (a) of Section
60, shall be as follows: $3.00 per day, $30.00 per month, or, !�
($75.00 per year; provided further if the person, firm or corporation,!
eeking to conduct a business as a solicitor or canvasser leases any++
ffice or other place within this city for a minimum period of one (l)
ear, using said office to keep business records in connection with I!
11 canvassing and soliciting done within this city, the license feed
hich shall be charged by the license inspector for a license to I�
duct said business as a canvasser or solicitor, as defined in
ubparagraph (a) of Section 660, shall be as follows: One solicitorsl
30.00 per year, Two eolicitors - $50.00 per year, Three Solicitors
60.00 per year, Four solicitors - $65.00 per year, Five Solicitors 11
