HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-17-2016 Minutes Tree Board Regular MeetingPage 1 of 2 MINUTES Hillsborough Tree Board Wednesday, August 17, 2016 9:00 AM, Town Barn 101 East Orange Street Present: Chairman Andrea Lewis, Vice Chairman Frances Harris, George Campbell, Dana Dannehower, Bryan Stuart, Liz Waters, Ex Officio – Karen MacAulay, Ex Officio – Greg Yavelak Absent: Phil Ray Staff: Stephanie Trueblood Item 1: Call meeting to order, roll call, and confirm presence of a quorum Chairman Lewis called the meeting to order. Ms. Trueblood called the roll and confirmed the presence of a quorum. Item 2: Consideration of changes or adjustments to the agenda Ms. Trueblood added an item – a request by the utilities department to remove some trees. Ms. Waters added an update on mosquito control. Item 3: Approval of minutes from June 15, 2016 Motion: Mr. Campbell moved to approve the minutes as submitted. Second: Ms. Waters seconded. Vote: Unanimous Changes: None Item 4: Added -Utilities Department removal of three trees on West Tryon Street Ms. Trueblood said it’s a preventative measure because if these trees fell they’d disrupt the sewer line under them, potentially dumping sewage in the creek. This has to go before the HDC as well, so neighboring properties will be notified. Motion: Vice Chairman Harris moved to approve. Second: Ms. Dannehower seconded. Vote: Unanimous Item 5: Planning for September Last Fridays- Arbor Day Ms. Trueblood noted who could attend. Item 6: Discuss Fall 2016 plantings Ms. Trueblood shared that the money had been encumbered for replacement Crepe Myrtles in two locations. Ms. Trueblood suggested considering planting at Calvin Street entrance to Riverwalk. A small group will work on sketching out a plan before the next meeting. Page 2 of 2 Ms. Trueblood shared that Multiflora is interested in donating plants. She also shared that she has written a new contract for mowing and maintaining public landscaping. Item 7: Updates/Ongoing Business:  Riverwalk Tree Identification update: Ms. Trueblood described the signs and said she expected them to arrive in September.  Garden Club update: Andrea Lewis Ms. Lewis shared several Garden Club events including a garden-related photography show at the Senior Center. The Garden Club has plans to put down cardboard and mulch to prepare the garden for the pollinator garden for the winter.  Staff Updates: Treasure Tree Map and Brochure, Damaged Crepe Myrtle Ms. Trueblood said regarding the damaged Crepe Myrtle, she filed a police report. Ms. Trueblood also shared the state had awarded the town $96,000 in downtown revitalization money that has to be spent by March 1. The money will go to replacing the Christmas wreaths, replacing the banners, 10 additional pedestrian benches, at least three bicycle racks that are the types the cyclists prefer, 3 or 5 large planters  Added item – Mosquito dunks Ms. Waters shared that she had emailed Town Board to express her concern over the use of dunks. Item 7: Adjourn Chairman Lewis adjourned the meeting at 10:23 a.m.
