HomeMy Public PortalAboutORD07083 ORDINANCE N0. 708 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 5758 OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON MISSOURI, BEING SECTION 1378 OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, 1956, RELATING TO THE RETIREMENT OF EMPLOYEES IN THE CITY STREET DEPARTMENT., AND ENACTING A NEW ORDINANCE PRE- SCRIBING THE AGE OF RETIREMENT FOR CERTAIN EMPLOYEES OF SAID CITY EXCLUDING ELECTIVE OFFICIALS. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Ordinance No. 5758 of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, being Section 1378 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, 1956, relating to the retirement of employees in the Street Department of the City, be, and the same is hereby, repealed. SECTION 2. Each regular full time employee of the Street, Police land Fire Departments, excluding Street Commissioner and the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chiefs, shall be retired from office upon reaching the age of sixty-five (65) years, at the end of the month during which such employee shall become sixty-five (65) years old. SECTION 3. The preceding Section- shall not apply to any employee of the Fire Department, in the event retirement at the age of sixty- five (65) years would jeopardize the right of said employee to ualify for a pension under the Firemen's Retirement Pension Plan rdinance. ECTION 4. Each employee of the City not required to retire at age 5 shall be retired at the end of the month in which such employee hallhall become 70 years old, provided that the Mayor with the consent f a majority of the elected members of the Council may retain any r E a 5 d C f mp loyee who reaches the age of 70 for a period of one year until aid employee reaches the age of 75 when retirement will be omo mpulsory. ECTION 5. The Mayor with the consent of a majority of the elected members of the Council may retain any employee above retirement age it the time this ordinance takes effect for a period not to exceed 3ix (6) months from effective date. 3ECTION 6.
