AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI , REPEALING
ORDINANCE NO. 7165 OF SAID CITY, REGULATING THE SPEED OF
MOTOR VEHICLES ON THE REX M. WHITTON EXPRESSWAY, AND ENACTING
A NEW ORDINANCE PERTAINING TO THE SAME SUBJECT, AND PROVIDING
A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI , AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Repeal Clause. Ordinance No. 7165 of the City
of Jefferson, Missouri, regulating the speed of automobiles on
the Rex M. Whitton Expressway is hereby repealed.
Section 2 . Congested Area . That portion of the Rex M.
Whitton Expressway lying east of Harrison Street and west of
a point that is 1000 feet east of the Clark Avenue overpass
is hereby declared to be an area of congested traffic.
Section 3. Speed Limit; Congested Area. It shall be unlawful
for the operator of a motor vehicle being operated on the Rex M.
Whitton Expressway, a divided limited access highway, in this
city to permit said motor vehicle to be operated at a speed in
excess of 55 miles per hour at any point on said Expressway
lying within the congested area as defined in Section 2 above.
Section 4. Speed Limit. It shall be unlawful for the operato
of a motor vehicle being operated at any point on the Rex M.
Whitton Expressway, a divided limited access highway, which is
not within the congested area as defined in Section 2 above,
to permit said motor vehicle to be operated at a speed in excess
of 70 miles per hour.
Section 5. Anyone violating any of the terms of this
ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor.
Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force
from and after its passage and approval .
