3�9 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NUMBER 5024 OF THE CITY OF
JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, LEVYING A LICENSE ON VARIOUS OBJECTS,
SUBJECTS, PERSONS, TRADES, VOCATIONS AND OCCUPATIONS BY
REPEALING SECTION I OF SAID ORDINANCE, BEING SECTION 563 OF
THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, 1956,
DEFINING CERTAIN TERMS IN SAID ORDINANCE, AND REENACTING A NEW
SECTION I OF ORDINANCE NUMBER 5024, TO BE KNOWN AS SECTION 563
OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, 1956,
REDEFINING CERTAIN TERMS IN SAID ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Section 1 of Ordinance Number 5024 of said
City, also known as Section 563 of the Revised Ordinances
of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, 1956, which defines
certain terms used in Ordinance Number 5024 be, and it is
hereby, repealed.
Section 2. There is hereby enacted a new Section 1
of Ordinance Number 5024, to be known also as Section 563
of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Jefferson, 1956,
which defines certain terms used in Ordinance Number 5024
and in Section 564 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of
Jefferson, 1956, which section shall read in words and figures
as follows:
"Section 563. Definitions. - -Wherever any of
the following words are used in the ordinance, they
shall have the following meaning:
Merchants. Every person, partnership, company
or corporation who shall engage in the business
of selling goods, wares and merchandise at any
store, stand or place within this city.
Contractor. A contractor is any person,
partnership, company or corporation: (1) who enters
into an agreement or contract with another to build
or aid in building any structure or improvement
within this city, retaining control of the means,
method and manner of producing the result to be
accomplished, or (2) who, as a subdivider or
Gy developer, builds, as the owner thereof, and sells
two or more buildings of any kind within a period of
any twelve consecutive calendar months.

Subcontractor. A subcontractor is every
person, partnership, company or corporation
who contracts or agrees to build or aid in
building any structure or improvement within this
city with a person, partnership, company or
corporation who has already contracted for the building
or construction of said structure or improvement. '
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
force from and after its passage and approval.
