AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI , RELATING TO THE
PREVENTION OF FIRES, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS :
Section 1. No person, firm, association or corporation, or
any agent or employee thereof, shall set on fire, or permit and
authorize to be set on fire, within the corporate limits of this
city, any hay, straw, paper, cardboard, shavings, wood, packing
materials, rubbish or any other materials of a combustible or
flammable nature at a point within twenty five (25) feet of any
existing building or structure between the hours of sundown and
sunrise.
Section 2. No person, firm, association or corporation, or
any agent or employee thereof, shall burn, or permit and authorize
to be burned, any material within the corporate limits of this
city unless such fire is attended by all times by a competent
person.
Section 3. No person, firm, association or corporation, or

any agent or employee thereof, shall burn, or permit and authorize
to be burned, any material within the corporate limits of this
city unless such material be confined in a screen covered type of
receptacle approved by the fine chief of this city or unless the
permission of the fire chief, or such employee of the City Fire
epartment as may be designated by the fire chief, has been first
obtained.
Section 4. No person, firm, association or corporation, or
any agent or employee thereof, shall maintain, or permit and
authorize to be maintained, any material specified in Section 1
f this ordinance on any premises owned, leased or occupied within
the corporate limits of this city, unless such material is confined
n some suitable container that prevents the scattering of such
material and which type of container has been approved by the fire

hief of the city or such other employee of the City Fire Depart-
ment as shall be designated by the fire chief. '

Section 5. No provision of this ordinance is intended to j
prevent, and should not be construed to prevent, the use of
cooking fires in portable or stationery cooking grills or ovens.
Section 6. Any person, firm, association or corporation, or
any agent or employee thereof, who is convicted of a violation of
any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemdd guilty
of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished
by a fine of not more than $100.00 for each offense, and each
day that such violation occurs or exists shall be deemed a
separate and distinct offense.
® Section 7. All ordinances, or parts of ordinances, in
conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed to the extent
that such ordinances, or parts of ordinances, do conflict.
Section 8. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force
from and after its passage and approval.
