AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI , CREATING THE POSITION OF SPECIAL DEPUTY CITY CLERK, PRESCRIBING THE NUMBER THEREOF, THEIR METHOD OF APPOINTMENT, THE OATH, COMPENSATION, DUTIES AND TERM OF SAID OFFICE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI ., AS FOLLOWS ,C IGNf (S) Section 1 . Ther is hereby created the position of special deputy city clerk. special deputy city clerks shall be appointed by the Mayor after their selection by the Chairmen of the Democratic City Committee and the Republican City Committee in the manner provided in Section 6 of this ordinance. Section 2. All special deputy city clerks shall take the same oath of office prescribed by ordinance for the City Clerk and the oath of office shall be administered to them by the Police Judge of the city. Section 3. All special deputy city clerks shall serve without salary or compensation. Their term of office shall begin as soon as they have taken an oath of office- and their term of office shall expire at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 1964. Section 4. The duties of the special deputy city clerks shall be as follows: (a) To receive applications for absentee ballots to be voted in- the general city election in Jefferson City, Missouri, on April 7, 1964. (b) To deliver the applications to the City Clerk of this city so that the names of the applicants may be posted as required by law. (c) To receive official absentee ballots and envelopes and all instructions required by law from the City Clerk and personally deliver same to the applicant therefor for execution by the applicant in the manner provided by law. (d) Upon request of the applicant for an absentee ballot, and after the voting thereof, to render such assist- ance as may be requested by the absentee ballot voter in mailing the absentee ballot to the City Clerk Section 5. Any person appointed to the officeof special deputy city clerk shall be a resident of Jefferson City, Missouri , and be entitled to vote-at the general city election to be held in said city on Tuesday, April 7, 1964. Section 6. The Chairman of the Democratic City Committee and the Chairman of the Republican City Committee shall each select persons suitable for appointment by the Mayor of this city to the office of special deputy city clerks to perform the duties prescribed in Section 4 of this ordinance.
