AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI REPEALING
SECTION 1 .030 OF ORDINANCE NUMBER 7344 REGULATING THE SPEED
OF MOTOR VEHICLES ON THE STREETS OF THE CITY, AND ENACTING
A NEW SECTION 1 .030 OF ORDINANCE NUMBER 7344 RELATING TO
THE SAME SUBJECT.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1 . Section 1 .030 of Ordinance Number 73441
reulating the speed of motor vehicles in this city, be, and
the same is hereby repealed.
Section 2. There is hereby enacted a new ordinance,
to be designated and known as Section 1.030 of Ordinance
Number 7344, regulating the speed of motor vehicles in
this city which shall read in words and figures as follows :
"Section 1 .030. Manner of operating vehicles;
maximum speed limits. 1 . Every person operating a
vehicle on the roadways of this city shall drive the
same in a careful and prudent manner, and shall
exercise the highest degree of care, and at a rate
of speed so as not to endanger the property of
another or the life or limb of any person .
2. No vehicle shall be operated at a speed in
excess of:
A. 70 miles per hour:
On the Whitton Expressway between
Vetter's Lane underpass and the east city
limits .
B. 55 miles per hour:
On the Whitton Expressway between Harrison
Street and the Vetter's Lane underpass.
C. 40 miles per hour:
On Industrial Drive between Brooks Street
and the westerly city limits; on Ellis
Drive between Rosewood Drive and the
south city limits; on Highway 50 between
a point located 500 feet west of Heisinger
Road and the west city limits; on Highways
50 and 63 between Grant Street and the
east city limits; on Highway 54 between
Tanner Bridge Road and the south city
limits .
D. 20 miles per hour:
On all roadways within any school zone,
between the hours of 7 :00 A.M. and 5 :00
P .M. on any day that a school, within the
school zone, is attended by children.
E . 15 miles per hour:
ithin any public park ;in the city.
F. 30 miles per hour:
• On all roadways, or portions thereof,
at any time; except where and when a
different speed has been authorized or
prescribed in this subsection.

3. The limits on speed set by this section
do not apply to the operations of any emergency
vehicle as defined in Section 1 .300; and, nothing
in Subsection 2 shall make the speeds prescribed
therein lawful in a situation requiring a 'lower speed
for compliance with the basic rule declared in
Subsection l ."
Section 3. Any person violating any provision of Section 2
of this ordinance (Section 1 .030 of Ordinance 7344) shall
be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction
thereof shall be fined not more than $100 .00 or be imprisoned
for not more than 90 days, or be punished by both such
fine and imprisonment.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
force from and after its passage and approval .
