A special meeting of Council was held to -day at 3:30 p.m., in the Council Chamber, and was attended by Mayor Righton, who pre- sided, and Councilmen Young, May, Slotin, Lovell, Logan, Haar. Councilman Haar moved that the temporary office in Savannah for the maintainence of the Registration Botak during the period pro- vided by the Town Chartdr, be located at 224 East Bay Street, Councilman Lovell seconded and the motion passed. Councilman Logan moved that Town Clerk Buckley keep the book open in Savannah, Councilman Slotin seconded, those voting yes; May, Slotin, Logan - those voting no; Lovell, Haar, Young, resulting in a tie vote, Mayor Righton voted no. The motion was lost. Councilman Young moved that Town Clerk Buckley and Officer Veronee alternate between Savannah and Tybee in keepingbthe Registration boik open, Councilman Lovell seconded, those voting yes; Lovell, Slotin, Young, May, Haar; voting no; Logan. T,,e motion passed. Councilman Young moved that Town Clerk Buckley and Officer Veronee be allowed 81.00 per day each for transportation and meals while keeping t'le registration book in Savannah, Councilman Haar seconded and the motion passed. Councilman 4otin moved that the Town accept the balance due by C.J.Richerds "and Mrs. Alice R.Richards, for taxes prior to May 1,19 39, as s-aotirn by note given and hed-:by the Town, dated Feb 7, 1939, for 0500.00, and also allow the discount Of 20% on the 1939 taxes, Councilman Haar sevonded and the motion passed. Some discussion developed as to the handling and issuing of building permits, it was decided to let the present set up remain a4 it is. Councilman Young moved that a form covering tie issuance of plumbing permits be printed in triplicate, Councilman Slotin seconded and the notion passed. S.B. Chamber of Commerce requested another paymeng on account, Councilman Harr moved that 250.00 be paid to S.B. e of 0 when the Chairman of the Finance Committee sees fit to do so, Councilman Young seconded and the motion passed. The Mayor informed Council that he had added to the duties'of the Town Hall Co mittee, the renting of the Town buildings that were for rent,ala�e repairs to buildings. Councilmen Haar sugge'.stedthat the propr'erty where the jail is located, at First Avenue and 16th street, be sold. Councilman ' Slotin moved that the matter be referred to the property com- mittee to ascertain what is the best offer that can be gotten for it. Councilman Slotin moved that the Town Hall Committee adopt a set of rules for the operation and maintenance of the the Town.Hall, Councilman Young seconded and the motion passed. Councilman Biotin reported that he had gottenprices for laying 1 linoleur in the corridor and two offices gdt bt'ie e tH *Rlr' be about $250.00. Councilman Slotin moved that Councilman Young make a list of all the things needed for. the Town Hall and get prices, Coun- cilman Logan seconded and the motion passed It was decided that the official opening of the Town Hall and having open house be postponed until the February meeting. The regular meeting of Town Council was held to -day at 3 :00 p.m., in the Council Chamber, and was attended by Mayor Righton, who presided, and Councilmen May, Young, Lovell,Logan, Slotin, Haar, Town Attorney Dutton. Also Mrs. J.E.McMillan, Mrs. Eugenia Willis, and Mrs. Cecil Carter. Mrs. McMillan and Mrs. Willis were a committee appearing .before Council in the interest of the Public Library, Irs. McM. stated that the Library wants the Town to take over the co- sponsorship of the Library or else it will have to close, the committee stated that it was very desirous that the Town sponsor the Library and they were in hopes that it would do so, After which the commitee was excused. The Mayor Stated that he was amazed at the wonder- P.:1 work that the Library is doing and feels that it .should be continued. Councilman Haar moved that the Town sponar the .Library and pay to the Treasurer of the Library, for the use of the Library, the sum of 110.00 per month, for January, February, March, April, 1910, _Councilman Lovell seconded and the motion pissed. Councilman Lovell moved that the Mayor be authorized to appoint the Library Board, Councilman Young seconded and the motion passed. M. O. Allen_ xiax �xx0petitioned for ,transfer of his 1939 whiskey license to Clifton J.Nunnery. Councilman Young moved that petition be granted, Councilman Haar seconded and the motion passed. Mayor B.ighton informed Council that he felt that the Town was not getting the proper co- operation from the WPA in finishing the beach protection project, and suggested 'contacting D.C. Nlchols., State Engineer, to a. certain why, The sense of the Board was that the work was9Pogressing as fast as it should and that the Mayor should get in touch with the proper parties and call .a special meeting of Council. The Mayor stated that he would handle it.
