M INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMAN: Riner ORDINANCE NO. 17a� AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, PROVIDING FOR AN ELECTION IN SAID CITY TO SUBMIT TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY A PROPOSITION CONCERNING THE ADOPTION OF DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME IN THE CITY. Whereas, the Mayor and City Council have received petitions supporting and opposing the use of daylight saving time in the City of Jefferson, Missouri, and Whereas the City Council wishes to test the sense and opinion of the qualified voters in said city on the issue of whether daylight saving time should be used in the city, now therefore BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. At the general city election to be held in the City of Jefferson, County of Cole, Missouri, on Tuesday April 5, 1966, the following proposition shall be submitted to the qualified voters of the city: PROPOSITION Should Daylight Saving Time be used in the City of Jefferson, Missouri, between the hours of 2:00 a.m. on Memorial Day and 2:00 a.m. on Labor Day of each year? Section 2. The said election shall be held in all the wards and precincts of the city at the same polling places designated for the election of city officials . Polls of said election shall be open at the hour of six o'clock A.M. and continue open until the hour of seven o'clock P.M. on the day of said election. The election shall be held and conducted and the results thereof shall be certified, canvassed and declared in all respects in conformity with the constitution and laws of the State of Missouri governing election in the City of Jefferson and in accordance with the ordinances of said city. Section 3 . The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to give notice of said election by publication in the Jefferson City Post Tribune, a daily newspaper printed and published in the City of Jefferson, and of general circulation therein. The notice shall be published in said newspaper once a week for four consecutive weeks and on the same day in each week. The first Publication of notice shall be made at least 21 days before the date of the election and the last publication shall be made within 10 days of the election. The notice to be published shall be in the following form: NOTICE OF ELECTION CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI Notice is hereby given that at the general city election to be held in the City of Jefferson, Cole County, Missouri, on Tuesday, April 5, 1966, there will be submitted to the qualified voters of said city the following proposition: PROPOSITION Should Daylight Saving Time be used in the City of Jefferson, Missouri, between the hours of 2:00 a.m. on Memorial Day and 2:00 a.m. on Tabor Day of each year. The election shall be held at the same voting places in each ward of the city as for the election of city officials. The polls at said election shall be open at the hour of six o'clock A. M. and continue open until the hour of seven o'clock P. M. on said date. All persons- who are qualified legal voters in said city shall be entitled to vote at said election. Given under my hand and the corporate seal of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, this day of March, 1966. City Clerk Section 4. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to furnish the judges and clerks of said election with all poll books, tally sheets, ballots, ballot boxes and all other materials and supplies necessary and required for the conduct of said election, and the ballot shall be in substantially the following form: -2- r` OFFICIAL BALLOT DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME CITY OF JEFFERSON, COLE COUNTY, MISSOURI TUESDAY, APRIL 5, 1966 PROPOSITION FOR Should Daylight Saving Time be used in the City of Jefferson, Missouri between the hours AGAINST. of 2:00 A. M. on Memorial Day and 2:00 A. M. on Labor Day of each year. INSTRUC'T'IONS TO VOTERS To vote in favor of the proposition place an X in the square (E::] ) immediately below the word "FOR". To vote against the proposition place an X in the square (= ) immediately below the word "AGAINST". Section 5.
