HomeMy Public PortalAboutORD07871 or 1 / BILL NO. 10Z INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEN: ���-���er✓ M ORDINANCE NO. 7871 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 5986 (BEING SECTIONS 390 THROUGH 396 OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, 1956) AND ENACTING A NEW ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE DIVISION OF THE CITY INTO FIVE (5) WARDS AND FOR REPRESENTATION TO THE CITY COUNCIL. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Repeal Clause. Ordinance Number 5896 of the City of Jefferson, Missouri (being Sections 390 through 396 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, 1956) be, and the same is hereby, repealed. Section 2. Division of City into Wards. The City of Jefferson, Missouri is hereby divided into five (5) wards, which shall be named the First Ward,"the Second Ward, the Third Ward, the Fourth Ward and Fifth Ward respectively. Section 3. First Ward Boundaries . The First Ward shall be bounded as follows: Beginning at a point where the centerline of the Missouri River is intersected by the extension of the centerline of Marshall Street; thence southerly along the centerline of Marshall Street to the centerline of Miller Street; thence westerly along the centerline of Miller Street to the centerline of Jackson Street; . thence southerly along the centerline of Jackson Street to the centerline of Dunklin Street; thence easterly along the centerline of Dunklin Street and the extension thereof to the southerly extension of the centerline of Vetter Lane; thence northerly along the southerly extension of the centerline of Vetter Lane to the centerline of the Rex M. Whitton Expressway; thence easterly along the centerline of the Rex M. Whitton Expressway to the corporate city limits line; thence along the corporate city limits line by the shortest route to the centerline of the Missouri River; thence westerly along the center- line of the Missouri River to the point of beginning. Section 4. Second Ward Boundaries: The Second Ward shall be bounded as follows: Beginning at a point where the centerline of the Missouri River is 3 intersected by the extension of the centerline of Marshall Street; thence 5 southerly along the centerline of Marshall Street to the centerline of Miller AW Street; thence westerly along the centerline of Miller Street to the centerline of Jackson Street; thence southerly along the centerline of Jackson Street to the centerline of Dunklin Street; thence westerly along the centerline of Dunklin Street to the centerline of Madison Street; thence southerly along the centerline of Madison Street to the centerline of Atchison Street; thence westerly along the centerline of Atchison Street, and the extension thereof, to the centerline of new U. S. Highway 54; thence northwesterly and northerly along the centerline of new U. S. Highway 54 to the centerline of the Missouri River; thence easterly along the centerline of the Missouri River to the point of beginning. Section 5. Third Ward Boundaries . The Third Ward shall be bounded as follows: Beginning at a point where the centerline of the Missouri River is intersected by the centerline of U. S. Highway 50, 54 and 63; thence south- westerly along the centerline of said highway to the centerline of McCarty Street; thence westerly along the centerline of McCarty Street to the centerline of Fulkerson Street and Industrial Drive; thence westerly along the centerline of Industrial Drive to the corporate city limits line; thence along the corporate city limits line by the shortest route to the centerline of the Missouri River; thence easterly along the centerline of the Missouri River to the point of begin- ning. Section 6. Fourth Ward Boundaries. The Fourth Ward shall be bounded as follows: Beginning at a point where the centerline of Industrial Boulevard is intersected by the corporate city limits line; thence easterly along the center- line of Industrial Boulevard to the centerline of McCarty Street; thence easterly along the centerline of McCarty Street to the centerline of U. S. Highway 50, 54 and 63; thence southerly along the centerline of said highway to its inter- section with the westerly extension of the extended centerline of Atchison Street; thence easterly along said westerly extension and the centerline of Atchison Street to the centerline of Madison Street; thence southerly along the center- line of Madison Street to the centerline of Russell Street; thence easterly along the centerline of Russell Street and the extension thereof to the centerline of Lafayette Street; thence southerly along the centerline of Lafayette Street and the extension thereof to the corporate city limits line; thence along and with the corporate city limits line by the shortest route to the point of begin- .: ning. Section 7. Fifth Ward Boundaries. The Fifth Ward shall be bounded as follows: Beginning at a point where the centerline of Madison Street is inter- sected by the centerline of Dunklin Street; thence southerly along the center- line of Madison Street to the centerline of Russell Street; thence easterly along the centerline of Russell Street, and the extension thereof, to the center- line of Lafayette Street; thence southerly along the centerline of Lafayette Street, and the extension thereof, to the corporate city limits line; thence along the corporate city limits line by the shortest route to the centerline of the Rex M. Whitton Expressway; thence westerly along the centerline of the Rex M. Whitton Expressway to its intersection with the southerly extension of the centerline of Vetter Lane; thence southerly along said extension of the centerline of Vetter Lane to the easterly extension of the centerline of Dunklin Street; thence westerly along said extension and the centerline of Dunklin Street to the point of beginning. Section 8. Representation of Wards. Each of the above wards shall be Ak entitled to two (2) representatives in the city council who shall be elected thereto in the manner provided by law. Section 9. Present Councilmen. Each councilman, as of the effective date of this ordinance, shall continue to hold office and represent the ward in which he resides until his successor shall have been elected and qualified. Section 10. Effective Date. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and approval as of the/y�day of 1967.
