Section 2. The City- of Jefferson shall have nineteen (19) police-
men

cants submitted to it, the Police !Board ohall return to the City
Marshall a list of the names of 1lppliognts whose qualifications are j
approved by it.
Should the 14nrshe.11 submit a list containin;; more names than the
number of policemen currently a,it-horized, and should the Board find
that there are a greater number of Aoplicants for posa.tions as
policemen in the Police Department than there are currently
authorized positions,, whose qualifications are sotisf actory, the
Board, if it so chooses , may return to the Marshall a list of names
of applicants which exceeds the number of positions currently
authorized in the Police Department, and the Farshall shall select
from said list of names a sufficient number of apr)li.can•ts to fill
the number of positions that is currently authorized.
In the event the Board fails to sonrove a sufficient number of '
names from the list submitted to fill all of the positions currently
authorized in the Police Denartment, the Board shall return to the
Marshall the names of such persons whose qual=ifications have been
approved, and the Marshall stall. immediately send to the Hoard
suffidient additional names to make up or equal the number of
positions to be filled in the Police Denartment.
The Police Board shall confer with the Ifarshq..11 from time to time
and determine if the Department is conducted properly and efficient-i
ly, and the 13oard shall make such .recommendations to the Council
touching upon the needs of the Department as the Board deems proper. i
Section 5. It shall be the duty of the Marshall, at or before the
second regular meeting of the Council after each City election,
to appoint all. of the currently authorized nol.icemen, for 9 term
of one (1 ) y_ es.r. The policemen that are a:Doointed shall have been
approved by the Police Roard. The a.)pointments of said n^1icemen
shall be subject to the confirmation of the rite Council. �I
Section 6. The Marshall may Pone*,.r_t one of the policemen as
Assistant Marshall who shall perform the O.uties of the Marshall i
at such time as the Marshall is unable to act.
Section 7. Vacancies in the nositions of policemen in the Police I
Department shall_ be filled in the same manner as herein before i
provided.

Section P. At that meeting of the City. Counci.l_ , held after each
city election, at which. the Marshall aopoints all of the regular
policemen currently authorized for a term of one (1 ) near, the
Mayor may appoint one of said policemen as Clerk or Eesk Sergeant li
for said one (1 ) -.year term. b-i and with the consent of the City
Council, subject however to removal at ap,, time in the same manner !I
as is provided for the removal of regular policemen.'

Section 19. Lhc, e shall bO nine (..) traffic , ol:icomen in the
Traffic Department of the City of Jefferson.

Section 20. No person or, 1)erscns shall be appointed to the office I
of traffic policetl,on who is not an argyle -bodied, sober and discreet
man, and who Is not a qualified voter of the City of Jefferson, and
a resident thereof' for at least one (1 ) year next preceding his
appointment.
Section 21. Traffic policemen shall be appointed by the Pllayor,
with the consent of a majority of the elected members of the City
Council, for a reriod not to exceed one (1 ) ,year, provided however,
that the Mayor may remove the traffic policemen at any time at
will.
Section 22. The Fla,Tor shall a-'opoint said traffic policemen, sub-
ject to the appro�ral of the irn jority of the elected members of the
City Counc:I.l , on or before the second regular e neil meeting
which follows the annual city election.

Section 23. Before entering; u )on the discharge of their duties ,
the traffic nolicemen shall take and subscribe to an oath or
affirmation as is requir.d by the Charter of the City of Jeffer-
son for City Officers.
Section 24. All of the Traffic '?olicemen shall work eight (a ) II
hours per day, except in cases of emergenc,r. The assignment of
the hours of duty of each traffic policeman shall be made by
the Yayor.
Section 25. Their shall wear a uniform and badge to be prescribed
by the Mayor to indicate their official position. The City Clerk
shall furnish the badge, and the traffic policemen shall furnish
their own uniforms.. II
Section 26. It shalt be the dutN of the traffic policemen to see
that all of the traffic ordinances of the City of Jefferson are
fully complied with and to arrest all violators thereof. It shall
also be their duty to see that an,r and all other ordinances of the
City are .fully complied with and t.o make arrests of persons found
violating said ordinances. Snid traffic policemen shall also
perform any and all other duties pertaining to t-he regulation of l
traffic that may be prescribed by the 1Vlayor and the City Council.
