Whe re as, In 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the
Ne braska Board of Agriculture that a special day
be set aside for the planting of trees, and
Whereas, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first obs erved
with the planting of more than a million trees in
Nebraska, and
Whereas, Arbor Day is no w observe d throughout the nation
and the wo rld, and
Whereas, trees can reduce the erosion of our precious tops oil
by wind and water, cut heating and cooling costs,
moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce life
-giving oxygen, and provide habitat for wildlife, and
Whereas, tre es are a rene wable re so urce giving us paper,
wood for our homes, fue l for our fire s and co untless
other wood products, and
Whereas, trees in our city increase property values, enhance
the e conomic vitality of busine ss areas, and beautify
our community, and
Whereas, trees, wherever they are planted, are a so urce of joy
and spiritual renewal.
Now, Therefore, I, Vincent Yu, Mayor of the City of Temple City
do hereby proclaim Friday, April 30, 2021 as Arbor Day.
In the City of Te mple City, and I urge all citizens to celebrate
Arbo r Day and to support efforts to protect our urban forest,
and
Fu rther, I urge all citize ns to plant tree s to promote the well-
be ing of this and future generations.
