HomeMy Public PortalAboutORD06465 w J ORDINANCE NO. 6465 AN ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE NUMBER 5978 OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, KNOWN AS SECTIONS 201, 102, 203, 024 and 205 OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, 1956, PERTAINING TO THE OFFICE OF WELFARE WORKER, AND ENACTIN [ A NEW ORDINANCE PERTAINTNG TO THE SAME SUBJECT, TO BE KNOWN AS SECTIONS 201, 202,ii 203, 204, 2050 and 205.5 OP THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, 1956i� BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Ordinance Number 5978 of the City of Jefferson, Missouri, known as Sections 201, 202, 203, 204 and 205, which pertains to the office of Welfare Worker, be and the same is hereby repealed. Section 2. There is hereby enacted a new ordinance which pertains to the same subject and said ordinance shall be known as Sections 201, 202, 203, 204, 205 and 205.5 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Jefferson, 1956, and shall read as follows: Section 201. Welfare Worker. The office of welfare worker is hereby created. Section 202. Appointment. The welfare worker shall be appointed by the Mayor with the consent of a majority of the members of the city council. Said appointment shall be made on or before the second regular meeting o the city council after the general city election in the year 1955 and every two years thereafter. Section 203. Term of office. The term of office shall be for two years provided that, the mayor, with the consent of a majority of the members of the council, may remove the welfare worker from office at any time. In the event of the death, resignation or temoval of the welfare worker from office, the mayor, with the consent of a majority of the members of the city council, shall have the power to make an interim appointment of a qualified person to serve the balance of the two year term. Section 204. Qualifications and Bond. The welfare worker shall be over the age of twenty one years and a resident of the city. Said person shall be of good moral character and physically able to carry out the duties delegated to said office by ordinance, the mayor, or the city council. Before entering upon the discharge of the duties of said offic , the welfare worker shall execrate a bond in the amount of One Thousand ($1,000.00) Dollars with good ind sufficient securities to be approved by the Mayor conditioned upon the faithful discharge of the duties of sa d office and the prompt payment of all monies coming into the hands of the person possessing said office' - that belong to the city to the officer entitled thereto at the time and in the manner provided by law. Section 205. Duties. The welfare worker shall make an investigation of applicants seeking medical treatment, hospitalization and medicines which are to be furnished at the expense of the city in order to deter- mine if the applicants can provide such services for themselves. The T person appointed shall also make monthly reports of investigations for the previous month to the city clerk, which reports shall be trans- mitted to the city council upon request of the council. In addition, the welfare worker shall perform all the other duties delegated to said office by ordinance, the mayor or the city council. Section 3.
