SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force from
and after its passage and approval.

ORDINANCE NO. 6701
AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE OPERATOR OF ANY MOTOR VEHICLE ON THE
STREETS, ROADWAYS AND HIGHWAYS WITHIN THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, UPON MEETING OR OVERTAKING FROM EITHER DIRECTION ANY
SCHOOL BUS WHICH HAS STOPPED ON ANY STREET, ROADWAY OR HIGHWAY
WITHIN THIS CITY FOR THE PURPOSE OF RECEIVING OR DISCHARGING
ANY SCHOOL CHILDREN AND WHOSE DRIVER HAS IN THE MANNER PRESCRIBED
BY THIS ORDINANCE GIVEN THE SIGNAL TO STOP, TO STOP SAID MOTOR
VEHICLE BEFORE REACHING SAID SCHOOL BUS AND REMAIN MOTIONLESS
UNTIL THE SCHOOL BUS RESUMES MOTION OR UNTIL SIGNALLED BY ITS
DRIVER TO PROCEED, AND DEFINING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The driver of any motor vehicle on the streets,
roadways and highways within the City of Jefferson, Missouri, upon
meeting or overtaking from either direction any "School Bus" which
is stopped on any street, roadway or highway within this city for
the purpose of receiving or discharging any school children and
whose driver has in the manner prescribed by this ordinance given
the signal to stop, shall stop said motor vehicle before reaching
such school bus and shall not proceed until said school bus resumes
motion or until signalled by its driver to proceed.
Section 2. Every bus used for the transportation of school childre
shall bear upon the front and rear thereof a plainly visible sign
containing the words "School Bus" in letters not less than eight
inches in height. Each bus shall have lettered on the rear in
plain and distinct type the following: "Stop while Bus is Loading
and Unloading" .
Section 3. Each school bus shall be equipped with a mechanical
or electrical signalling device which will display a signal plainly
visible from the front and rear and indicating intention to stop,
and said signal shall be put into operation prior to stoping the
school bus and remain in operation until the school bus resumes
