SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) offers matching funding through its Grants for Arts Projects program to support projects that “celebrate America’s creativity and/or cultural
heritage.” The average grant award amount is $25,000 and must be matched at least 1:1 with local funding.
The McCall Public Art Advisory Committee is requesting approval to apply to this grant program to help fund a public artwork that will be integrated into the Library Expansion project
and provide a critical component of the new Library construction such as front desk, interior doorway, flooring, furnishings, or fireplace mantel in a unique and beautiful way.
Funds necessary to match this grant, if awarded, are pending FY22 City budget approval. An FY22 CIP request of $62,000 has been submitted for this project for a total project cost estimate
of $87,000.
This project was identified as a priority project within the McCall Public Art Plan adopted by City Council on March 11, 2021. Additionally, at its June 14, 2021, meeting, the McCall
Library Board expressed support for this project.
More information about the NEA Grants for Arts Projects program can be found at: https://www.arts.gov/grants/grants-for-arts-projects.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve submittal of a NEA grant application for McCall Library public art and authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary documents.
