SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The McCall Police Department is requesting approval to submit a grant application to the Small, Rural, and Tribal Body-Worn Camera Program offered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance,
U.S. Department of Justice and Justice & Security Strategies to support implementation of body-worn camera (BWC) programs in small, rural and tribal law enforcement agencies in an amount
up to $2000 per sworn officer.
The estimated total cost to provide BWCs to McCall Police Department’s twelve (12) sworn officers is $44,188. The grant must be matched 1:1, so the grant request amount and local match
commitment is $22,094.
BWCs have become an industry standard and will assist the McCall Police Department by ensuring officer accountability of all police activities, enhancing overall investigations of incidents,
and improving prosecution rate of crimes. Requested technology necessary to implement BCWs include WiFi/Bluetooth wearable cameras, power supplies and charging stations, and hardware/software
necessary to archive captured video.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve submittal of a grant application to the Small, Rural, and Tribal Body-Worn Camera Program and authorize the Mayor to sign all necessary documents.
