Trustees are volunteers who serve for a term of five years. Library Trustees are recommended for appointment by current library board members and appointed by the City Manager and City Council. An ad was placed in the Star-News for two weeks and seven letters of interest (attached) were received. Two of the seven candidates backed out of the process, Terry Edvalson and Mark Morgan, leaving five candidates to be considered Carol Auth, Christy Hovey, Jackie Atkinson, Linda Corder, and Matt Stebbins. The Library Board of Trustees interviewed the 5 candidates on November 8, 2021 and voted unanimously to recommend Matt Stebbins for appointment. Mr. Stebbins would finish a term of service in place of Patrick Coyle, who has resigned due to work obligations. Matt stood out for his passion about reaching underserved populations in our community and bringing new users to library services. He also has extensive experience with non-profit management, strategic planning initiatives, and community building organizations. His letter of interest stated that he has learned “how vital libraries are as a community resource, not just for books and internet access, but also in providing quiet and safe spaces, referrals to other community services, and generally creating community connection.” RECOMMENDED ACTION: Appoint Matt Stebbins to the McCall Public Library Board of Trustees for a term to expire October 2025.
