by law.
Section 4. The cost of such repairing, surfacing and resurfacing
shall not exceed the sum of sixty cents (60) per front foot, per
annum, upon proerty abutting upon the streets aforesaid.
Section 5. 4-1,11 ordinances, or part of ordinances, in conflict
with this ordinance, are insofar as they conflict herewith, are hereby
repealed.
Section 6. "his ordinance shall take effect frdm and after its
passage and approval.

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF CERTAIN (D MMITTEES AND
BOARDS OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON AS HEREINAFTER SET OUT.
BE IT DDDAT NED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI,
AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. At the first meeting of the City Council held after
the City Election of each yegr it shall be the duty of the Mayor, and
with the coneurren a e of the ouncill, to appoint the following standing
committees of the ity council, as follows:
1. A Committee of ive (5) on Finance.
2. A Committee of five (5) on Streets, Alleys, 6idewalcks and
Sewagew_
5. A Committee of Five (5) on Water, Gas acrd Electric Lights.
4. A Committee of Five (5) on Public ,uildings, Grounds, and
City Property.
5. A ommittee of Five (5) on Claims, Accounts and City
Officials.
6. A Uommittee of Five (5) on Ordinances and Printing.
Section 2. .he committees named in this ordinance shall be com-
posed of one (1) member of the City -ouncil from ach of the Five (5)
Wards of the City.
Section 3. the duties of the committees named in this ordinance
shall remain the same and be the same as now provided by ordinance.
Section 4 )there is hereby created a police board which shall
consist of five j5 members of the city council to be appointed by the
Mayor at least teLi days before the second regular meeting of the council
after each city election. It shall be the duty of said board to consider
the question of eligibility and gerieral qualifications of all appli-
caLits for position on the police forco.,. such applicaiits to be submitted
to the police board by the marshal. he marshal shall submit to the
police board such list of applicants as he may desire, in no everit to
beless than eighteen, which names shall be submitted to the polic
board at least five days before the second regular meeting of the ity
council after each city election. From the number of applicants so
submitted to the police board by the marshal the police board wall
return to the marshal at least eighteen (18) names of qualified and
satisfactory officers: PROVIDED, HOWEVER, that should the marshal
submit more than eighteen names and the board shall find that more
than eighteen applicants are qualified to make satisfactory police
officers the board, if it so chooses, magi return more than eighteen
names to the marshal. In the event that the police board fails to
approve at least eighteen names from the list so submitted as being
satisfactory and qualified officers, they shall return the names of
such persons as they find to be satisfactory for police officers to the
marshal, who shall send to the police board forthwith sufficient addi-
tional names to make up the list of eightwwn police officer for the
consideration of the police board.
