be established., said parking spaces to be designated by lines painted
or duably mahked oil the curbing or surface of t' he street. At each
space so marked off it shall be unlawful to park any vehicle in such
a way that said vehicle shall not be entirely within the limits of the
space so designated.
Section 4. Installation of narking ',*,eters. In said parking
meter zone parking meters shall be installed upon t'lle curb or dide-
walk immediately adjacent to the )arking, soaces provided in Section
3 of this ordinance , said installation to be .)laced not rore than
two (2) feet from the curb nor r,ore than four (4 ) feet from the
front line .of the parking space as indicated and the Chief of Police
shall be responsible for the re:Lilation, control, operation, maintenance ,
and use of such parking meters. 'E- ach device shall be so set as to display
a signal showing. legal -parking u.-)on the deposit of the appropriate coin or
coins. ,1awful money of the United States of America, for the period cf
time prescribed by this ordinance. Each device shall be so arranged that u
upon the expiration cf the lawful time linit it will indicate by a pro-
per visible si -nal that the lawful )arl•ing period has ex-)i red and in such
cases the rig.-ht of such vehicle to occupy such space shall cease a;-id the
operator., owner, possessor or manR[-,,er thereof shall be sub;ect to the
penalties hereinafter provided.
Section 5. Cooration of "arking 1-•oters. Except in a -3oriod
of emerGer:cy determined by an officer of the -v'ire or Police Department.,
on in compliance with the directions of a :Police officer or Traffic
control sign or sij nal, when -an,, vehicle shall be parked in any paring
space alongside or next to whfth a )arl,Lin,. meter is Rocated, the oocrator
of such vehicle shall i.pon enterii-ifr, the said ,-,,arking meter space, imme-
diately deposit or cause to be deoosited in said meter such .,)ro,,)er coin
of the United States as is required for such parking meter and as is
designated--nated by proper directions on the meter, and when required by the
d6rections on the meter,, the o':)erator of such vehicle, after the doposi
of the proper coin or coinsm shall also set in operation the timing
mechanism on such meter in accordance with directions pr•operly appear-
ing thereon, and fa ..lure to dep ,,sit such proper coin, and to set
the t1ming mechanism in ope ration when so required, shall c,)nstitute
a violation of this ordinance. Upon th- deposit of such coin (and the
setting of the timing mechFriisin in operation when so required) the

Section 7. violations. It shnll be unlnwful and a violation

parking space ad'acent to any )arking meter while said meter is dis-

parkins- spac(- .
( c ) 'o )ark any vehicle across any line or r arking of a narking
meter space or in such a manner that the vel iske shall not be ntirely
within the area desi,-nated by such lines or mar. kin,-s.
(d) i'o deface, injure, temper with, open or wilfully break,
destroy, or impair the usefulness of any larking meter installed under
the provisions of t is ordinance.
(e ) `So deposit or cause t be deposited in any p arltingr meter
any slugs, device or metal substance , cr other substitute for lwwful
coins.
Section S. Enforcement. It shall be the duty of the Police
Department to enforce the provisions of tr",is ordinance.
Section 9. Collections. It shall be the duty of the License
I specter to make regular collections of the money deoosited in said
meters and it shall be the duty of such persons so desii rlat•ed to re-
move from the -),,irking meters the sealed containers therein containing
