At MRCC, our core values help us create a caring culture...
Consider the core value of customer second. When we care for the physical and emotional well-
being of staff, FIRST—CNAS to nurses, dietary to plant and facility maintenance, therapists to social
workers they feel appreciated, have job satisfaction, and feel safe in their working environment. In
tum, they will care for and support each other, have a positive relationship with an administration
who supports them, and will take pride in their work, thus creating a "loving family environment" for
residents. And, what employee doesn't want this? Creating a caring environment for staff, who carry
that forward to residents, is one of our goals...
...as we strive to be the Best of the Best._ J

FKLIZ ARO NUEVO un todos da Lago Chapalas! {°R
We would like to extend a Gracias por la deliciosa comida to Jose and Lili
Marin, owners of Lago Chapala Mexican Restaurant of McCall, who provid-
ed a veritable Mexican feast for the residents and staff of MRCC when they
delivered dinner —enchiladas, tamales, burritos, chips, salsa, rice and
beans —during this holiday season, twice (Thanksgiving and Christmas). Lili
says that she and Jose are grateful for what they have and want to "do
something for others". We are honored that they chose us as a recipient of
their good will. Not only was the meal delicious, but it provided an excuse to
serve up mocktails, to round out the meal. Ole! •

"It's Because I'm Green, Isn't It?"
The Grinch
After a day of taking holiday-themed family pic-
tures, photographer Amber Coyle, along with
her pals Betsy Ogden and Lindsey Taylor —in
elaborate costumes and make-up as The
Grinch and Cindy Lou Who —accepted an
invitation from the director of MRCC, and good friend,
Jenny Sowers, to come by and meet the residents and
staff. And that they did. Smiles and laughter ensued, and
everyone was amazed by the Grinches' make-up (applied
by a very talented Lindsey) and special Grinch Green
contacts worn by Betsy. In a word, WOW! Our sincere
thanks to these talented ladies for making their way to,
and our day at, MRCC.

"The power of the human -animal bond far exceeds any single circum-
stance or situation", that a quote from Pet Partners, who promotes the
health and wellness benefits of animal -assisted therapy. We are grateful
that volunteers like Becky, leaning against the fence in photo on left, brings
her dog Lida to MRCC for a little
one-on-one time with residents.
Thank you, Becky.
Students spruce up the windows
In December, students from McCall -Donnelly High School painted
jolly Christmas and holiday pictures across residents' windows,
offering plenty of goodwill from the outside of our building.
Cheers, MDHS students, for your joy and enthusiasm.
A Pie Contest is held
— And the Winner Is...
Would it be the barely browned "crimp" of the Sweet Po-
tato pie, the cool sweetness of the Strawberry pie, the
flakey crust on the Mock Apple pie, or the over -the -top
rich chocolate of the chocolate cream pie that would at-
tract the attention of our resident judges last week at
MRCC's Holiday Pie Contest? Why, no, it was the
mashed potato crust which topped Steve's Shepard pie.
And the taste, it definitely hit a warm, comfort food spot.
For his "think outside the box" kinda pie, Steve won
the coveted blue ribbon and a bottle of Sparkling Cider
at the recent pie baking contest. Coming in second
and third places, respectively, were Dee S. for her fruity
Millionaire pie and Jody S. for her delicious Mint Chocolate pie. Congratulations to all who entered the pie
bake -off! And, the real winners are: our residents, who were the judges, and the staff, all of whom sampled
the tasty pastry treats. Let's do it again!

Sylvia Kober, our Activity Director, works diligently, and with "fun"
on her mind, to create entertaining activities for residents. The
activities can be described as anything from exciting —enjoyable,
fun, thoughtful, lively to relaxing.
Activity is meant to add interest and variety to the residents' lives;
they may be a mental exercise; meant to build camaraderie with
fellow residents and staff; or, provide enjoyable distractions. We
are fortunate to have Sylvia on our staff, as any of us will tell you.
Sylvia's aim, and our goal, can be seen in the faces
of our residents.
