A special meeting of Council was held this morning at
8 a.m. in the Council Chamber in the Town Hall, and was
attended by Chairman of Council Biotin, who presided, and
Councilmen Griffin, Henry, Ferguson, Daniels, and Town
.Attorney Dutton.
The meeting was called for the purpose of vouching
into the State Highway Department certain streets located in
the Town of Savannah Beach.
Councilman Griffin moved that the following resolution
be adopted. Councilman Henry seconded and the motion passed.
RESQLUTION
WHEREAS, all of First Street from the Tybee City Limits
running eastward to' Butler Avenue and southward to Sixteenth
Street, thence eastward to the Strand, as indicated in green
and attached on the plat,. is now a part of the Highway System of
the State of Georgia; and,
WHEREAS, Sixteenth Street is now a one -way street leading
from Butler Avenue to the Strand and the State Highway ends at
Sixteenth Street and the Strand, and due to the tremendous
traffic of automobiles the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of
Savannah Beach, Tybee island, are desirous of having 30 feet of
the Strand from Sixteenth Street to Eighteenth Street, 1083.4
feet long, and Eighteenth Street, 6o feet wide and 688.8 feet
long, and Butler Avenue -from Eighteenth Street to Sixteenth
Street, 6o feet wide and 1083.4 feet long, placed in the Highway
System of Georgia in order that both Seventeenth Street and
Eighteenth Street can be used as a loop to the present.State
Highway in order to have an outlet for traffic on Seventeenth
and.Eighteenth Streets, one -way stree.tsm to Butter Avenue back
into the State Highway at Butler Avenw0 Sixteenth Street,
and also to have Campbell Street and Ptvat Avenue placed in the
Highway System as these are the only two streets leading to the
United States Government reservation, Fort Screven.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen in
Council assembled that the Highway Board of Georgia be requested
to accept and take into the Highway System all of that part of the
Strand from Sixteenth Street to Eighteenth Street, 30 feet wide
and 1083.4 long, also Seventeenth Street, 60 feet wide and 688.8
feet long, Eighteenth Street, 6o feet wide and 698.5 feet long,
Butler Avenue from Eighteenth Street to Sixteenth Street, 6o feet
wide and 1830.1 feet long, Campbell Street, 6o feet wide and 852
feet long, and #144t Avenue, 6o feet wide and 520 feet long. Said
streets desired to be taken into the Highway System are marked in
red on the attached plat and made a part of this resolution.
