HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution No. 057-96 01-23-1996 RESOLUTION NO. 57-96 RESOLUTION DECLARIlVG RESULTS OF ELECTION WHEREAS, an election was held within the City of Richland Hills, Texas on January 20, 1996, on the proposition whether to adopt an additional sales and use tax within the City of Richland Hills at the rate of one-half of one percent to be used for water and sewer system improvements, street and highway improvements, economic development, parks and park facilities; and WHEREAS, the ballots in said election have been counted and the official canvass thereof has been conducted as required by law; and WHEREAS, the Municipal Sales and Use Tax Act, contained in Chapter 321 of the Texas Tax Code, requires that the City Council of the City of Richland Hills declare the results of said election by resolution. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS: I. • That an election was held within the City pursuant to the requirements of the Municipal Sales and Use Tax Act and the Texas Election Code on January 20, 1996, at which the following proposition was submitted to the voters: The levy and collection of an additional one-half of one percent sales and use tax within the City pursuant to the provisions of Section 4B, Article 5190.6, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes, as amended (the "Act"), with the proceeds thereof to be used and applied in the manner and to any of the purposes authorized by Section 4B of the Act: water system improvements, sewer system improvements, road, street and highway improvements, economic development and parks and park facilities; PROVIDED, however, that expenditures of said proceeds for economic development, parks and park facilities shall be limited to one and one-half percent (1 %2%) of annual proceeds collected. And at said election the total number of votes cast for the proposition was 174 and the total number of votes cast against the proposition was 64 The City Council hereby finds and determines that the number of votes by which said proposition was approved was 110 . BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Secretary of the City of Richland Hills shall send to the Comptroller of the State of Texas by United States certified mail a certified copy of this resolution upon its adoption, along with a map of the City of Richland Hills clearly showing its boundaries.
