A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS, SUPPORTING LEGISLATIVE
EFFORTS TO AMEND LOCAL OPTION ELECTION LAWS
REGARDING ALCOHOL SALES.
WHEREAS, the 1991 amendment to the local option election requires 35% of the registered
voters to sign a petition to place an option on a ballot; and
WHEREAS, the motor voter registration act increased the number of registered voters; and
WHEREAS, a registered voter who has moved away and not registered elsewhere or has
died is kept on the voters list through two presidential elections; and
WHEREAS, the number of registered voters is not accurate in so far as it includes those who
have moved from the City but not registered elsewhere or have died; and
WHEREAS, this places an undue burden on citizens seeking to meet the 35% voter
requirement to place an option on a local ballot;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
• OF RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Council of Richland Hills encourages the Texas State Legislature to address
disparity through legislative means.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Richland Hills, Texas, by
a vote of 4 ayes, 1 nay,. ;and 0 abstentions, on this the 23rd day of February
