HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-26-2013 COW MinutesMinutes of the Committee of the Whole Workshop of the President and the Board of Trustees Held on August 26, 2013 In the Boardroom Mayor Collins called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Present were: Mayor Collins, Trustee Rippy, Trustee Bonuchi, Trustee Fay, and Trustee Lamb. Board absent: Trustee Racich and Trustee Peck . Others present: Brian Murphy, Administrator; Michelle Gi bas, Village Clerk; Michael Garrigan, Planning Supervisor; D.Marquez, Building Supervisor; Traci Pleckham, Management Services Director; and Joh n Konopek, Chief of Police. T here were 8 persons in the audience. Trustee Fay moved to approve the Minutes of the Committee of the Whole Workshop held on August 12, 2013. Seconded by Trustee Lamb . Voice Vote. All in favor, 0 Opposed. PRESIDENTIAL COMMENTS Mayor Collins: • Thanked Brian Murphy and Michael Garrigan for working on the sale of the old Baci’s build ing. • Complimented the Midwest Brewers Fest and pointed out that there were approximately 3,000 people in attendance. • Congratulated the Police Department on the Illinois Traffic Safety Awards and pointed out that the Police Department won a 2013 Wells Fargo 14’ Trailer as well as some other prizes. TRUSTEES COMMENTS Trustee Fay thanked everyone involved with the Midwest Brewers Fest. Trustee Rippy thanked everyone involved with the Midwest Brewers Fest. Trustee Bonuchi thanked everyone involved with the M idwest Brewers Fest and suggested finding out the names of the key people. PUBLIC COMMENTS None WORKSHOP #1 STRATEGIC PLANNING Administrator Murphy presented the 2018 Strategic Plan Objectives and Action Items for the four major goal areas including Transportation/Community Connections; Community Life/Identity; Business and Retail Development; and Village Infrastructure. Administrator Murphy reviewed Transp ortation/Community Connections. Trustee Lamb suggested partnering with as many agencies as possible to integrate our list with the other agencies , and completing action items that can be done quickly . Trustee Rippy suggested working with future developer s regarding separating bikes from traffic like on 135 th Street , and exploring the land earmarked for the train station for a bus depot . Trustee Bonuchi suggested looking into ways to safely cross Route 59 . Village of Plainfield Meeting Minutes – August 26, 2013 Page 2 Administrator Murphy then reviewed Community L ife/Identity. Trustee Bonuchi suggested having guidelines in place prior to having people utilize property and to consider allowing service groups to put up signage. Trustee Lamb commented about signage at Main Street & Route 59. Administrator Murphy t hen reviewed Business and Retail Development. Trustee Ri ppy pointed out that the Promen ade in Bolingbrook is up for sale and suggested getting some information. Administrator Murphy reviewed Village Infrastructure. Trustee Lamb stated that there should be a high priority placed on visibility and also suggested priorit izing based on near term impact and focus on things that can be done short term. Trustee Rippy stated that recruiting development is important. Trustee Bonuchi stated that the Village shou ld continue to meet with the community. Administrator Murphy stated that staff will bring back the document for formal adoption. Mayor Collins read the reminders. Trustee Fay moved to adjourn. Seconded by Trustee Lamb . Voice Vote.
