A special meeting of Council was held today at 8 p.m. in the Council
Chamber and was attended by Mayor Jones, who presided and Councilmen
Slotin, Lovell, Walsh, Henry and Ferguson, and Mr. Lloyd Butler.
The meeting was called for the purpose of adopting or rescinding any
ordinances which may be accepted, and for any other business that
should come up.
The Mayor introduced Mr. Butler, and stated that he was conducting a
beauty pageant throughout the State of Georgia, the finals of which
would be held at Savannah Beach the latter part of the season; that
Mr. Gordon Miller, President of the Savannah Beach Chamber of Commerce
had investigated Mr. Butler, and reported that his credentials were
all right. The Mayor stated that in his opinion the publicity that
would be derived from putting on this pageant would carry a lot of
weight and would benefit the Town very much. Mr. Butler outlined the
program he had in mind and stated that the business interest on the
Island had agreed to come in and finance the cost of putting the
pageant on, and he was asking that the Town donate $200.00 to cover
advertising, etc, in connection with the pageant. Councilman Henry
moved that the Town donate $200.00 for the beauty contest, the finals
of which are to be held at Savannah Beach, and the money to be paid
through the Savannah Beach Chamber of Commerce. Councilman Ferguson
seconded and the motion passed.
Councilman Slotin stated in connection with Life Guard set up, that it
would be well for the Red Cross Life Guards theyhave some identifying
uniform other than at present worn, and also that the towers used by
the Life Guards be placed on spots in the parking areas so that good
coverage could be had by those on the towers doing observation work
in connection with the life saving work.
Councilman Walsh stated that in the matter of collecting garbage,

garbage should be collected every day, especially during the summer
season.
Councilman Slotin, in discussing the delinquint licenses stated that
it'was agreed that those who have not paid at the proper time would be
put on the docket for Thursday,,: June 12th, but this was up to Mr. Walsh
as Chairman of the License Committee.
Councilman Ferguson suggested that the tickets now used on the parking
areas as receipts for the charge made for admission, be printed on the
opposite side with the rules covering the regulations of parking, etc,.
No action was'taken on this.
Councilman Biotin moved for the adoption of the following ordinance.
Councilman Walsh seconded and the motion passed.
ORDINANCE
AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THAT CERTAIN ORDINANCE ENTITLED " AN ORDINANCE
TO PROVIDE FOR THE TAXATION OF REAL AND PERSONAL PROPERTY IN THE TOWN
OF SAVANNAH BEACH, TYBEE ISLAND, GEORGIA, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR COMMENCING
MAY 1st, 1941, AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE RATE OF LICENSES FOR DOING BUSINESS
IN SAID TOWN OF SAVANNAH BEACH, TYBEE ISLAND, GEORGIA, FOR THE FISCAL
YEAR ENDING APRIL 30th, 1942, FIXING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION, AND
FOR OTHER PURPOSES", PASSED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEN ON THE 3rd, DAY
OF APRIL, 1941, BY ADDING THE FOLLOWING LICENSE AT THE END OF SECTION 4,
AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
Section 1: Be it enacted by the Mayor and Councilmen of. the Town :of
Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and it is hereby enacted by the authority
of the same that that certain Ordinance entitled, "An Ordinance to
provide for the taxation of real and personal property in the Town of
Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, for the fiscal year commencing
May 1st, 1941, and to provide for the rate of licenses for doing
business in said Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, for the
fiscal year ending April 30th, 1942, fixing penalties for the violation ",
passed by the Mayor and Councilmen on the 3rd Day of April, 1941; be and
the same is hereby amended by adding the following license at the end of
Section 4:
Any person, firm or corporation operating a night club having a seating
capacity of 150 seats, employing an orchestra of not less than 4 pieces,
and operating a restuarant and /or.dining room in conjunction with said
business, shall pay the doliowing license: Night club permit, $100.00;
dining room under night, club, $100.00; orchestra under night club, $50.00;;
or a total of $250.00, provided that before the license is issued the same
must be approved by the Police Committee of the Town of Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, and be governed ± by rules and.regulations of said Committee.
Section 2: Be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid that all
ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance be and

the same are hereby repealed.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned, subject to the
call of the Mayor.

A special meeting of Council was held at 8 p.m. today in the Council
Chamber in the Town Hall and was attended by Mayor Jones, who presided,
and Councilmen Slotin, Ldvell, Daniels, Walsh, Henry and Town Attorney
Dutton.
The meeting was called for the purpose of adopting whatever ordinances
were necessary, and any other matters that may come up.
The Mayor informed Council that he had been approached by Gordon
Saussy relative to the open ditch leading across his property on the
inlet, and he stated that former Mayor Righton had promised to close
this ditch for him. The Mayor stated that at the present time the
convict force was right down to a minimum, but that this work should
be done. Councilman Slotin moved that this work in the vicinity of '
Judge Saussy's property and Chatham Avenue, and also the area in Smith
Road between 17th and 18th Streets be closed, and the Mayor authorized
to purchase the necessary pipe to do this work'. Councilman Henry
seconded and the motion passed.
Councilman Henry'moved that the following ordinance be adopted.
Councilman Walsh seconded and the motion passed.
