A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CIT
Y OF
RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS, SUPPORTING A COUNTY-
WIDE EMERGENCY WARNING SYSTEM
WHEREAS, in the aftermath of tornadoes that tore a path through the heart of Tarran;
County on March 28, 2000 and the failure of some existing outdoor warning sirens, there
been a public outcry for an improved and coordinated outdoor warning system; and,
WHEREAS, the type of weather related emergencies that trigger the activation of a'
emergency warning system do not respect municipal boundaries and, therefore, justifies acounty -
wide coordinated system for maximum warning efficiency and the protection of all Tarrant County
citizens; and,
WHEREAS, a State of the Art county-wide emergency warning system can be
• appropriately funded and managed by the existing Tarrant County 911 District by expanding t'
911 service charge on residential phone bills; and,
WHEREAS, legislative action will be required to allow the Tarrant County 911 District to
implement the plan for acounty-wide emergency warning system;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS, that the City Council does hereby support the development
and implementation of a county-wide emergency warning system and any legislative changes
necessary for the creation thereof.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Richland Hills, Texas, by
a vote of 5 ayes, 0 nays, and 0 abstentions, on this the 9th day of January, 2001.
