WHEIMAS , there are riany sidewalks in the City of Jefferson
in a broken, defective condition; and
'. H�J_'EAS , under -the Ordinances of the City of Jeffer^on and
Laws of the :state of 1issouri it is the duty of abutting property
owners to maintain sidewalks abutting their property in a safe con-
dition, and to keep sane repaired;

SECTI011. I . That it is hereby rRde the duty of' the City
Eng;i..neer of the City of Jefferson to Make a survey and examination
of all improved sidewalks in the City of Jeff r•. r•son; that in all
instances where said Engineer shall. find any public siderialk in a
broken, defective and unsafe condition, he shall a.scerte.in the name
of the owner or owners of the property adjacent to and a.buttin&; said
sidewalk and shall prepare a written notice on Droner bl,-:.tnk forms
for the purpose of notifying; the owner of said abuttinn- property
that said sidewalk is in a defective condition, and for the further
purpose of notifying said property owner ;vha.t repairs are necessary
in order to mace said sidewalk in a safe condition,; that after
preparing said notices, with the name of the property owner thereon
and F. description of the work necessary to be done set out therein,
said Engineer shall deliver two copses of said notice to the Chief of
Police of Jefferson City, rho shall forthwith serve one copy of said
notice on the property miner named t}ierein and shall make Iiis return
on the remaining copy to the City Engineer, stating on whoa notice
was served and the date of service. Said City Engineer shall retain
possession of the returns so made by the Chief of Police or any
Policenan of the City of Jefferson who may be designated by the Chief
of Police to serve said notices , and the City Engineer shall further
investigate to see if the sidewalk is repaired within the time limited
in -.aid notice, rahicb in no event shall exceed thirty (30) clays frorr
the date of serving. If the Engineer shall find that the sidewalk
has not been repaired , as directed in the notice, he shall report
such failure to repair to the City Attorney, who shall file a compin.int
an;ainst said. property o,,rner.
SECTIC11. ? . Any such ovine-r of any lot or tract of land within
this City, who, after having been duly notified in writing; by the
delivery to such property owner of a, written order directing such
property owns r to rep iir or reconstruct a. ,;idewa.lk lying along and
adjacent to his or her or their property, shall fr?.il, neglect or
refuse to comply with the - t�:rms of such written order and fail to
repair or reconstruct said sidewalk within thirty days from the
delivery of said notice, shall be deemed guilty of' a misdeiaeanor and
