another copy of said Ordinance, which copy shall 13e filed in the office
of the City Clerk.
SECTION. 3. In the event the owner or owners above named fail
to construct said sidewalk as above directed, then the City of Jefferson
under the power and authority given it by its Charter afid Ordinances,
will construct said sidewalk and will issue a special tax bill against
said property for the cost of the construction of said sidewalk, which
said special tax bill will be a. lien against the property above described.
SECTION. 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force
from and after its passage and approval.

# 3819. AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE REPAIRING, SURFACING, AIM
RESURFACING BY THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, OF MADALINE STREET FROM THE WEST
LINE OF DOCKERY STREET TO THE EAST LINE OF THE FIRST NORTH AND SOUTH
ALLEY THAT LIES WEST OF DOCKERY STREET: AND ALL OF SAID I10ROVEMENT TO
BE WITHIN THE LI11ITS OF SPRINKLING, OILING, REPAIRING, SURFACING AND
.RESURFACING OF DISTRICT NUMBER TEN (10) OF THE CITY OF JEFI7,11SON, AND
FOR THE ISSUANCE OF SPECIAL TAX BILLS, NOT EXCEEDING SIXTY (60) CENTS
PER FRONT FOOT, AGAINST THE ADJOINING PROPER'T'Y FRONTING OR ABUTTING UPON
SAID STREET, TO PAY FOR SUCH IMPRCVEMENT.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION. I. That the City Council hereby finds and declares that
it is necessary to repair, surface and resurface, at a cost not exceeding
sixty (60) cents perfront foot, the following described street , to-wit: ,
Madaline Street; beginning at the West line of Dockery Street;
thence along Madaline Street to the East line of the first North and
South alley that lies West of Dockery Street; all of said. improvement to
be within the limits of sprinkling, oiling, repairing, surfacing and
resurfacing District Number (10) of the Uity of Jefferson , Missouri.
SECTION. 2. The City Council finds and declares it is advisable
and to the best interests of the owners of property to be charged with
the cost of such work; that the said work shall be done by the City
without letting a contract therefor, and that the Street Cormissioner is
hereby directed to purchase the necessary materials and employ the
necessary labor for the performance of said work end shall superintend
the work and keep an accurate account of the cost thereof.
SECTION. 3. The cost of eunh repairing, surfacing and resurfac-
ing shall be defrayed by a special tax, to be assessed in favor of the
City of Jefferson, on the adjoining property fronting or abutting on
the Street where such work is done, in proportion that the linear feet
of each lot fronting or abutting thereon bears to the total number of
linear feet of all property chargeable with the tax aforesaid, in the
territory embraced within this Ordinance. Special tax bills shall be
issued evidencing such assessment and shall become liens on said proper-
ty, and shall be issued and enforced as provided by law.
SECTION. 4. Cost of such repairing, surfacing and resurfacing
shall not exceed the Burn of sixty (60) cents per front foot, per annum
on property abutting upon the Street aforesaid.
SECTION. 5. All Ordinances and parts of Ordinances in conflict
with this Ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION. 6. This Ordinance s}-!all take effect and be in effect from•
and after its passage ^nd approval.
