The regular mOeting of Town Council was held to -day at 5 :00 p.m., in the Council Chamber in the Town Hall, and was attended by Mayor Jones, who presided, and Councilmen Walsh, Henry, Fer- guson, Slotin, Lovell, Daniels, Town Attorney Dutton, and Supt of Public Works C oet r.e. The minutes of the meetings of July 1st, 21st and August 5th were read and adopted. Request having been made to have Moore Avenue, Bright, Logan and Bryan streets paved the question developed as whether the Town should take them over to pave them, all not- :being public streets. The Town Attorney wns instructed to notify the property owners in the vicinity of these streets that the Town would them but would no assume any liability. Councilman Slotin suggested that the Town do just those things that are neceusary and wait and see if the Public Works Administration projects go through. The Mayor-informed Council that a priority rating had been given for the steel to be used in the House sewerage project and he expected work to start very shortly as everything was ready. He also stated that he would have the Tilton and First streets groynes repaired at once. Also that in conversation with the Govenor, the Govenor stated that he would look into the Tybee road situation with a view to having the bad condition remedied. Ferguson Councilman c7t.i moved that the contract for the erection of the treatment plant of the House Sewerage System, with the J.G. The Mayor informed Council that he did not file application for a Health 6Genter, ect., with the Public Works Administration after having it prepared, due to hospital facilities at Fort Screven, but if he ascertained that it could be gotten he would file the applaication at a later date. The Mayor informed Council that he had several places under consideration for the propn ed Soldier Center on the island and ejcpectedto get some action shortly. Councilman Slotin state&tthat at the dance held Saturday by the 'Jewish Welfare Association on`Tybrisa for the soldiers 88 of the boys had no money, he had found a place in private homes for 22 and altogether 66 had been; taken care of on the island and were fed their meals, he having handled the matter so that all of them weretfed ' . . Council thanked him and tt was the opinion of all that he did a fine job handling the matter like he did. The Mayor informed Council that he had been nequested by the Works Progress Administration to take out the concrete steps that were fastened to the seawall in front of the parking areas as they did not want anything of permanent nature tied to the seawall. The Mayor stated that the steps would be removed from the wall. The Mayor stated that he had recevied a letter from Govenor Talmadge thanking everyone for the courtesies extended him while on his visit to the island recently. Councilman Siotin informed Council that in the anticipated revenues in the budget for 1941 all of the departments had gone beyond the expectbd income except the Police Court. The Clerk was instructed to send out notices to taxpayers for the eecond half of 1941 taxes due October 1st. 156 Councilman Slotin moved that bills amouting to 11692.1.1-1 covering°, purchases by the Town be approved, Councilman Walsh seconded and the motion passed. Councilman Slotin moved that the cost of entertaining Govenor Talmadge during his visit during the Beauty pageant amounting to $191.50 be approved, Councilman Henry seconded and the motion passed. The Mayor was requested to write a letter thanking the 118th Band for the excellent rrograme rendered by them on Tybrisa Pavilion during the Labor Day week -end. Town AttorneyDutton informed Council that the lot of D.J.Sheaban on Tybee Inlet (# 36, ward 6),had been sold to Messrs. Fine and Meddin and that they were informed of the sewer line running under this lot before they purchase it. Councilman Henry informed Council that Officer W.G.Kendricks had resigned film the Police Department to accept enother position and that he had two applications for the job. Councilman Biotin moved that the matter be left to the Chairman of the Police Committee in collabor,,tion with the Mayor, Councilman Ferguson seconded and the motion passed. Councilman Henry stated that as Chief Stewart had worked very diligently he would like to have his salary increased to $135.00 per month and if necessary to out X10.00 per month off of the salary of the new @fficer employed. No action was taken at thi time. A plan for group accident insurance for volunteer firemen was submitted. The matter was received ae i nfb rmation. The natter of employ$n$ an assistant in the office of the Clerk was left to the Mayor and Clerk to handle. Mayor Savannah Beach Tybee Island, Georgia October 74 1941 A .special meeting of the council was held today at 4;04 P.M., and was attended by Maybrx Jones, who presided and Councilmen Walsh, Henry, Fergurson, Biotin, Lovell, Daniels and Town Attorney Dutton. The meeting was called for the purpose of changing the time of the regular meetings of the council. Councilman Fergurson moved that the time of holding the regular meeting of town council be changed to 4:OO P.M., on the first Tuesday of each month effective October 7. Also by Mr. Pitman, Mr. Little, and Mr. Bacon, of the Works Progress Administration, and G. R. Vinson, of the J. B. McCrary Company. The Mayor offered the Towns fullest cooperation in Con- nection with the sewarge project that was about to begin, Mr. Pitman 157.
