HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution No. 281-06 10-24-2006 • RESOLUTION NO. 281-06 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS SUPPORTING THE $128.6 MILLION BOND PROPOSALS FOR THE BIRDVILLE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT (BIRDVILLE ISD) ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 7, 2006. WHEREAS, the City of Richland Hills supports the Birdville Independent School District preparing students to succeed in school and in life by providing them with an outstanding educational framework from a premier school district; and WHEREAS, in the spirit of cooperative partnership between the City of Richland Hills and the Birdville Independent School District; and WHEREAS, the Community Bond Advisory Committee comprised of parents, community and business leaders was created to ensure that the Birdville Independent School District continues to provide its 22,400 plus students with needed facilities and up-to-date technological opportunities; and WHEREAS, the Committee recommended a school bond election be held on November 7, 2006; and • WHEREAS, voters will be asked to consider a proposition totaling $128.6 million to build replacement campuses at Jack C. Binion and Stowe elementary schools to alleviate the overcrowding; each middle school will receive four-lane tracks and new and renovated locker rooms to enhance physical education and athletic instruction; renovate and expand Haltom High School to eliminate the need for portable classrooms; build a replacement campus at Richland High School; build a new Career and Technology Center to provide much needed space to accommodate the many students seeking to enroll in these programs. WHEREAS, School property taxes were recently reduced by the state legislature, which permits Birdville ISD voters to approve this bond package and still benefit from a property tax rate lower than it was in the previous year. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Richland Hills supports this effort and urges voters to support the Birdville Independent School District's Bond election propositions included on the November 7, 2006, special election ballot. FURTHERMORE, that the City of Richland Hills urges that the Birdville Independent School District's student population be provided with continued opportunities for educational excellence in the areas of academics, athletics, fine arts, and • career and technology education.
