APPROVING EMS/AMBULANCE SERVICE AGREEMENT WITH
RURAL METRO
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret is in need of EMS/ambulance
services for its residents; and
WHEREAS, the Carteret First Aid Squad has been
providing emergency ambulance service throughout
Carteret; and
responsible for
the Borough of
WHEREAS, despite the diligent efforts and valiant commitment of the
Carteret First Aid Squad, it has experienced difficulty providing needed
emergency ambulance service to the Borough during the weekday,
daytime hours and has therefore contracted with Rural Metro to assist in
providing said service; and
WHEREAS, the Governing Body wishes to relieve the Borough's
volunteer first aid squad of this added burden; and
WHEREAS, Rural Metro has made a proposal to the Borough to provide
EMS/ambulance service between the hours of 6:00 a.m. through 6:00
p.m., either Monday through Friday for a cost of $4,000.00 per month, or
Monday through Sunday for a cost of $5,600.00 per month, at the option
of the Borough; and
WHEREAS, the Borough and Rural Metro desire to formalize an
agreement with regard to the provision of EMS/ambulance service for a
period of six months, with a six month renewal option; and
WEHREAS, the Chief Financial Officer has certified that funds are or will
be available for said purpose.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the
Borough of Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey, as
follows:
1. The agreement between the Borough of Carteret and
Rural Metro for the provision of EMS/ambulance service from the hours of
6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. either Monday through Friday, or Monday through
Sunday, at a cost not to exceed $4,000.00 per month or $5,600.00 per
month, respectively, for a six month period with a six month renewal
option, based upon the service option selected by the Borough, effective
February 15, 2002, is hereby approved.

2. The Mayor and Borough Clerk are hereby authorized
to execute a contract with Rural Metro on behalf of the Borough of
Carteret in a form acceptable to the Borough Attorney.
3. This contract is made as an award of an
extraordinary, unspecifiable service, pursuant to N.J.S.A.40A:I 1-5(1 )(a).
