HomeMy Public PortalAbout2002-33 Supporting the Proposed Sales Tax IncreaseRESOLUTION NO. 2002-33 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA; SUPPORTING THE PROPOSED SALES TAX INCREASE, OF WHICH MUNICIPALITIES WILL RECEIVE A 20% SHARE EXCLUSIVELY DEDICATED TO THE TRANSPORTATION NEEDS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY AND THE MUNICIPALITIES OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners of Miami -Dade County have proposed a Sales Tax increase, which revenue is to be solely dedicated to transportation needs; and WHEREAS, the Village Council has been advised that the Dade League of Cities supports the proposed Sales Tax increase; and WHEREAS, a Citizens Independent Transportation Trust Fund has been proposed to give oversight to the expenditure and utilization of these funds; and WHEREAS, a 20% direct distribution of the gross sales tax revenues, based upon individual municipal population (adjusted annually), will be directly distributed to all municipalities solely to enhance transportation needs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The Village Council of the Village of Key Biscayne joins the Dade County League of Cities in supporting an increase in the sales tax that will be dedicated to the transportation needs of Miami -Dade County and the surrounding municipalities. Section 2. That 20% of the gross sales tax revenue will be utilized by the municipalities for transportation needs solely within municipal boundaries. Section 3.
