The regular meeting of Council was held today at 8 :00 p.m., in the Council room, and was attended by Mayor Jones, who presided, and Councilmen Walsh, Lynch, Slotin, Lovell,Leo- pold and Town Attorney Dutton. The minutes of the meeting of August 4th were read and approved. The Mayor informed Council that he had written Mr. J.P.Houli- han relative to the bad u saftitary condition existing at the fishermans camp on the Inlet, Mr.';Houitbau etated that he had been advised that sitivation was alright, had sent Mr. J.A. Rossiter to investigate the matter. An invoice ofthe Tybee Waterworks for $55.50 and one of J.R. Waldron for $34.50, covering repa.ird to the watermain broken by the workmen on the Sewerage project, were presented and on motion of Counai]tm.n Biotin that they paid from the Sewerage *iiount, seconded'by Councilman Lovell, the motion passed. Councilman Lovell informed Council of the bad condition exist - ing at First Street and First Avenue, where sand is washing out from under the asphalt caused by work left unfinished bit the Sewerage project. He was informed that this work was:yheld up until neoesaasy parts fro some of the equipment could be procured. The Mayor Informed Council that he had endeavored to get bids on anew car for the Police Dept, but so far had been unsuccess ful, the Pontiac is worn out. In the matter of the Tybrisa Company taxes, the Clerk was in- struuted to notify them that if the taxes are not paid within thirty days the property will be advertised for sale, interest at seven per cent is being charged, and that no discounts will allowdd on past due taxes. Councilman Slotin moved bills covering purchases for General Govt for the month of August amounting to *401.97 and bills for purchases made during the month of August for the Sewer- age Account amounting to $ 615.16 be paid, Councilman Lovell seconded and the motion passed. Councilman Walsh moved that effective with the October meeting 223 the meetings of Council :Abel held on 4 :00 p.m., in the after- noon, Councilman Biotin seconded and the motionrpassed. Councilman Biotin moved that the following amendment to the 1941 tax ordinance be adopted, Councilman Leopold seconded and the motion passed: ORDINANCE. AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND that certain ordinance entitled "An ordinance to provide for the taxaion of real and personal property in the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia for the diseal year commencing May lag, 1941; and for other purposes ", passed by the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in Council assembled, on the lst day of April, 1941, by striking Section 2 in its entirety from said Ordinance; and for other purposes. Section 1. Be it enacted by the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, and it fiere by enacted by the authority aforesaid that that eertaih'Ordinance entitled, UAn Ordinance'to provide for the taxation of real and personal property in rthe Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, for the fiscal year commencing May lst, 1941; and for other p vposes,0 be and the same is hereby amended by strik= ing Section 2 in its ehtinsty from said Ordinance. Section 2. Be it further enancted by the authority afore said that all ordinances or parts of ordinances in con- flict with this Ordinance be and the same is hereby repealed. The minutes of the meeting of September lst were read and approved. A letter was read from the Tybrisa Company protesting against being charged interest on their past due taxes, which was re- cently done when they made an on account payment of.$1500.00, It was the opinion of Council that the interest charges Would not be cancelled, but t#at if they paid all past due taxes bar November 15th, 1942, the discount on all of 1942 taxes would be allowed, after November 15th if the taxes were not paid the property would be advertised foto sale.
