Savannah Beach, Tybee Islpnd, Ga.
November 17, 1942.
The regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4 :00 p.m.,
in the Council room, in the Town Hall, and was attended by
Mayor Jones, who presided, and Councilmen Biotin, Leopold,
Lovell, Walsh, Henry Town Attorney Dutton and Mr. G.R.Vinson.
The minutes of the meeting of October 20th wwre read and approved.
The Mayor informed Council that he had Written Mr. C.F.Powers,
President of the Tybee Waterworks on October 28th to ascertain
if the company wanted to sell its water system and if s t
what price, he was notified by Mr. Powers that they did "eiXsh to
sell but were willing tilt discuss the matter, he later having
contacted the Mayor personnally, who requested Mr. 'Vinson to
appear before the meeting to present data in connection with
the system, he estimated that the company has about 031,000.00
invested in the system, that the Town•purchase it for about
$4O,OOo.00 it will be necessary to put an additional 025,000.00
into it, making a total outlay of approximately 05,000.00
hesestimated the.cost of operating the plant at 01800.00 per
year, salary of Supt at 01800.00, cost of labor at 01950.00,
it was decided of ter discussing the setup it would be well
to give the matter further study. The Mayor informed Council
that he would get together with Mr. Vinson and go more dilly
into the matter and advise Council of his action. Mr. Vinson
stated that the RFCorpn would take certificates of indebted-
ness against the system as security.
The Mayor informd Council thathEad received two offers to
purchase the 4 and 6 inch black iron pipe owned by the Town
one from the Liberty Junk Co, for 0 per foot, on the yard,
and another from John D.Robinson Co, for 190 per foot, on
the yard.
Councilman Henry stated that another policeman was needed
to take the plane of Officer Smith who resigned.
It was decided that Police Headqaurters be moved to the
new Jail effective at once.
Councilman Walsh moved that the Town purchase for 015.00
a stationary cabinet for use in the Clerks office, Councilman
Leopold seconded and the motion passed.
The matter of the encroachment by the Tybrisa Copaay on the
strand in front of lots 91- 92 -93, ward 4, was discussed, the
committee handling it- reported that bthey were endeavoring to
get the situation adjusted.
Councilman Biotin moved that bills covering October purchases
for General rio•vt,amounting to 0620.05 and bills covering Oct -
ber purchases forte _S•ewBrage Account amounting to :0518.95
be paid, Councilman Walsh seconded and the motion passed.
There being no further business Council adjourned subject to the
