The postponed regular, meeting of Council was held to -day at 6:00 p.m., in the Council Room,.and was attended by Chairman of Council Biotin, who presdded in the absence of Mayor Jones, who was ill, and Councilmen Walsh, Henry, Leopold and Lovell. The minutes of the ;meting of November 17th wets read and approved. Council was informed of the illness of the Mayor who was con- fined to the hospital, the Board went on record in expressing its sorrow and regrets and wished for him a speedy recovery. It was also brought to the attention of C.-)uncil of the con- finement in the hospital of Mr. MacGregor, Supt of Public Works, Council expressed its refgrets. The Clerk was instructed to have flowers sent to both the mayor and Mr. Mac Gregor. Acting Mayor Slotin informed Council that the Mayor had request- ed him to convey to them the best wishes of the Christmas Season and the hope that the New Year would be the happiest that they have ever enjoyed. Councilman Henry moved that the annual Christmas gifts of cigarettes to the guards and convicts at the convict be auth= orized, not to exceed $25.00. Councilman Walsh seconded and the motion passed. Councilman Henry informed Council that Mayor ('xleEson of Pooler had stated to him that the tax rate there was 5 mills, and that the water system, municipally owned helped in keeping the tax rate down, they employ d no extra policemen. Councilman Walsh moved taat the Chief of Police place Miss Mary Butler on the docket for failure to pay her business license for 1942. Councilman Henry seconded and the motion passed. Councilman Walsh moved that the Savannah Bank and Trust Co, and the Citizens Bank and Trust Co., be paid $1500.00 each as re- ductions on demand loons held by them. Councilman Leopold seconded and the motion passed. The matter of licensing oystermen and fishermen who sell seafood was discussed, - Councilman Leopold was requested to investigate and report back at the next meeting. Councilman Walsh moved that a basket of fruit be presented to the following; Chief Stewart,Supt MacGregor, Mr. Utley, Pat Mock, Mr. Vinson, Fire Chief Young and Town Clerk Buckley, to cost not over $2.50 per basket. CouneilmanLovell seconded and the motion passed. The matter of transferring the whiskey and soft drink and beerr license for 1942 of the RipTide,located at the Strand and 16th Street to Fred P.Haar, located at Butler Avenue and 16th Street, was approved. Council discussed the encroachment of the Tybrisa Company on the Strand in front of lots 91- 92 -93, ward 4, but no action was taken. Councilman Henry moved that bills for purchses made during the month of November fo General Government amounting to $436.90, and bills fof pureha es made during November for Sewer Account amounting to $711.51,be paid. Councilman Walsh seconded and the motion passed. Acting Mayor Slot$n informed Council that a vacancy existed on the Board caused by the resignation of Councilman Lynch, and asked for nominations, Councilman Walsh moved that Mitchell R.Young be.eboted to fill the unexpired term of Councilman Lynch, there being no other nominations, Councilman Leopold seeodded and the motion passed. The Regular meeting of Council was held to -day at 4 :00 p.m., in the Council Room in the Town Hall, and was attended by Mayor Jones, who presided, and Councilmen Walsh, Henry, Biotin, Lovell,Leopold, Town Attorney Dutton and Councilman -elect Young. The folloting oath of office was administered to Mitchell R. Young, by Town Attorney Dutton: OATH. The minutes of the meeting of December 22nd, were read and aproved. The Mayor informed Council that the he had been advised by the Tybee Waterworks that they did not want to sell and that they also denied the allegations that they had refused to furnish water to the Treatment Plant, made by affidavits of G.R.Vinson, C.E.Eason, and H.D.Breen,r.,A.P.Solomon,jr., claimed that the Waterworks could not do it, the Pawn id now using a temporary "line furnished by Fort Sereven. The Mayor informed Council that he had a letter from H. Sol . Clark, attorney for the Tybrisa Company, offering to pay $1000.00 for the encroachments in front of lots 91- 92 -93, ward 4, and which they are claiming as their property, the opinion of Council was t_iat the offer is rediculous. Attorney Dutton stated that
