Hello,
My name is Andy Edgin and my wife, Angie and I have been homeowners in McCall and residents of May
Marina for almost 10 years. It is my understanding you have received some input from others regarding
the proposed “party boat” that could be based adjacent to the western edge of May Marina. I have mixed
feelings about this but thought it would be helpful to share my perspective on a key aspect – the proposed
location.
For reference, my first 2 years in the marina were along the west side so I can speak from experience the
limited space between those boat slips and the public Sheriff’s dock is oftentimes challenging to
navigate. The quirky winds on the lake, people using that area to swim, etc. can make entering and
leaving those slips very challenging. Having the party boat moored in that area all season will
significantly complicate those maneuvers. As an alternative, the docks on the east part of the lake near
Mile High Marina and where Cheap Thrills set up their rental fleet might allow for safer ingress/egress.
For good measure, I also want to pose a question. Based on the behavior we see frequently in downtown
Boise by patrons of the bicycle versions of the party boat, is this really an enterprise you want to
endorse? The Boise city leadership came close to banning those ventures last year due to numerous
complaints about the alcohol-fueled behavior. While it’s fun for those participating, it can be very
annoying and disruptive for everyone else. And finally, allowing this to go until 10 pm every night will
clearly be disruptive to residents of the marina and those looking to enjoy the lake in the evenings. It
seems odd to me the McCall city leadership and Parks and Rec department are potentially in favor of
allowing this same type of activity in McCall. This is especially relevant since you banned the party
atmosphere at North Beach a few years ago – and that’s an area that is miles from the downtown area.
In closing, the city leadership has done a masterful job of keeping the feel of McCall intact while
recognizing inevitable growth as people take advantage of the gem that is McCall. My goal in this letter
was to share my perspective in hopes it will help in the decision making process for this enterprise.
Sorry this turned out longer than I expected but thank you for your consideration.
Best Regards,
Andy & Angie Edgin
