Hi Bessie Jo, I am forwarding the email that I sent to Kurt yesterday with the hope that you will forward our concerns to the City Council. Thank you, Dale and Marcella Hatfield ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Dale & Marcella Hatfield <hatfield7@gmail.com> Date: Wed, Feb 2, 2022 at 9:55 AM Subject: Use of Public Property Concerns To: <kwolf@mccall.id.us> Cc: <aspickard@mccall.id.us>, May Hardware <bookkeeper@mayhardware.com>, <bgiles@mccall.id.us> Hi Kurt, We are writing to you with regard to the proposed paddle/party boat concession on the east side of the public dock at Bear Park. We share most of the concerns that have been passed on to you, by patrons of May Marina and don’t feel it is necessary to reiterate all in this email. However, we would like to expand the discussion on the appropriate use of public property. We may be wrong but it is our understanding that the dock at Bear Park is public property, hence the process for approval. The city along with your department has traditionally done a fantastic job of maximizing community enjoyment of public property. From our perspective, this is where approval of a paddle/party boat concession really does not seem to be in the best interest of the community. The Bear Park dock is used all summer long by a wide array of people from our community as well as visitors to our community. Kids & adults playing and swimming on and around the dock; boats tying off to the dock so they can go into town to eat, drink, shop, etc. Dock space, in the middle of town, is arguably one of the most valuable (per square foot) assets the community has. To grant exclusive access to a private for-profit entity really seems to fly in the face of maximizing the benefit of a public space to the entire community. If approved, this would also set precedent for other public docks. Do we really want to open the door to concessions on the docks at Rotary Park and elsewhere? Please reconsider the approval of this concession. The dock at Bear Park is far too valuable of a community asset to be turned over to a private company. Thank you for your time and consideration.
