May 22, 1943.
A special meeting of Council was held today at 6 P.M., in the
Council room, and was attended by Mayor Jones who presided, and Council-
men Henry,, Young and Leopold.
The meeting was called for the purpose.. of
(1) Adopting certain wage rates in connection with the
Sanitary Sewerage Project to comply with the Labor
Relations Dept. of the Federal Works Agency.
(2) To close 6th Street East from Butler Ave. for the
convenience of the War Department.
CouncliTgAp Young moved that the following resolution be adopted;
Councilman/Vbconded and the motion passed unanimously;
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, Gegrgia, are about to let a contract for the completion
of the Sanitary ewerage Project under a grant from the Federal Works
Sgeney, Project No. Ga. 9 -244 (NF) which was duly accepted by the'Mayor
and Councilmen of the Town of avannah Beach, Tybee Island, at its
regular meeting on May 6th 1943; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary for the said Mayor and Councilmen of
the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, to adopt certain wage rates
to comply with the Labor Relations Department of the Federal Works
Agency;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of the
Town of savannah Beach, Tybee Island, in 8ouncil assembled, that the
following classifications and wage rates shall prevail for employees
and /or laborers working on said Sanitary Sewerage Project:
CLASSIFICATIONS WAGE RATES
Apprentices will be recognized as such only when
regularly indentured. The wage rates shall not be less
than the rate set forth in the indenture.

Councilman Leopold moved that the following resolution be adopted,
Councilman Young seconded and the motion passed unanimously:
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the War Department of the United States of America
is desirous of using sixth Street from Butler Ave to the Strand on
the Atlantic Ocean for the war emergency; and
WHEREAS, The Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, Georgia, realizes the importance of closing said Sixth
Street from Butler Avenue to the Strand on the Atlantic Ocean in order
that said property may be used by the War Department;:, and
WHEREAS, said Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Savannah Beach,
Tybee Island, feel that it is to the public interest that said street
be closed;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Councilmen of
the Town of Savannah Beach, Tybee Island, Georgia, in Council assembled
that Sixth Street from Butler Avenue to the Strand on the Atlantic
Ocean shall be closed to the public and turned over to the War Dept.
of the United States of America for its use during the present war
emergency.
