HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution No. 462-16 04-05-2016RESOLUTION 462-16 A RESOLUTION OF THE RICHLAND HILLS CITY COUNCIL FOR THE PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHING DIRECTION FOR FUTURE TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS AND INTENTIONS FOR POSSIBLE FUTURE SALES TAX CAPACITY WHEREAS, the City Council has called an election to allow residents to determine their continued membership in the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T); and WHEREAS, the election will result in either the residents of Richland Hills remaining members of The T or withdrawing their membership from The T; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that if residents elect to withdraw from The T, certain essential transportation components should remain for the good of the community; and WHEREAS, surrounding cities, such as North Richland Hills, Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Haltom City, Grapevine, Keller, Flower Mound, Southlake and others provide a Mobility Impaired Transit Service (MITS) of some type; and WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that a MITS type service is essential to the future well-being of Richland Hills; and WHEREAS, multiple agencies have agreed in principle to contract with the City for a MITS type service if residents elect to withdraw from The T; and WHEREAS, if the residents elect to withdraw from The T, the City Council welcomes the potential opportunity to maintain a mutually beneficial relationship with The T through a contractual relationship; and WHEREAS, if residents elect to remain members of The T, the City Council looks forward to a continued strong relationship with The T through its membership status; and WHEREAS, as indicated through recent legislative actions, The T has assisted in passing legislation that encourages contract relationships; and WHEREAS, recent legislation was cooperatively passed between Tarrant County, The City of Fort Worth, the City of Blue Mound, the City of Grapevine and the City of Richland Hills in order to facilitate a strong relationship, whether through contracts or membership, between Richland Hills and The T, WHEREAS, should residents elect to withdraw from The T, the sales tax in Richland Hills will decrease by'/z cent; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF RICHLAND HILLS the Mayor and City Council of Richland Hills encourage all residents to become informed on the issues at hand in the May 7th, 2016 election and exercise their right to vote their conscience.
