HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution No. 488-17 09-11-2017RESOLUTION NO.488-17 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS APPLYING FOR AND ACCEPTING, IF OFFERED, GRANT FUNDS FOR RIFLE RESISTANT BODY ARMOR FROM THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, CRIMINAL JUSTICE DIVISION; PROVIDING FOR NOTICE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Richland Hills, Texas finds it in the best interest of the citizens of Richland Hills to equip their officers with the safest body armor possible; and WHEREAS, the Office of the Governor is working to ensure that communities throughout the state receive the resources to make Texas a safer place by creating a program to provide funds to update protective equipment for law enforcement officers throughout the state of Texas; and WHEREAS, the Office of the Governor has called for applications for funds to provide rifle resistant body armor for all law enforcement officers with funding to begin in FY 2017-2018; and WHEREAS, the City of Richland Hills has compiled a grant application requesting funds to buy Class 3A Plus body armor for 22 officers and 1 City Marshall at $315 each for a total of $7,245; and WHEREAS, the City of Richland Hills agrees that in the event of loss or misuse of the Criminal Justice Division Funds, the City of Richland Hills assures that the funds will be returned to the Criminal Justice Division in full; and WHEREAS, the City of Richland Hills wishes to designate the individual who will act as the grantee's "Authorized Official" for purposes of the grant requirements. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS THAT: Section 1. The statements contained in the preamble to the Resolution are hereby adopted as true and correct statements of fact and as part of the operative provisions hereof. Section 2. The City of Richland Hills approves application for and acceptance, if offered, of grant funds in the amount of $7,245 for the Rifle Resistant Body Armor Project from the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division. Section 3. The City Council of the City of Richland Hills approves and designates Eric Strong, Richland Hills City Manager, as the grantee's authorized official, and as such Mr. Strong is authorized to apply for, accept, reject, alter or terminate the grant on behalf of the applicant agency. Section 4 Upon adoption of the Resolution, the City Secretary is directed to give notice of this Resolution in the manner required by law. Section 5. This Resolution shall be effective upon its adoption. Passed by the City Council of Richland Hills, Texas this 11th day of September, 2017.
