GOLF COURSE ADVISORY
COMMITTEE
MINUTES
WED. July 5,1995
Carl Hoss
Charles Denham
Roll Call and Call to order: Rick VanNoy and Judy Barkley were absent while all
other members were present.
Minutes: Jeff Goodman moved that the minutes of the meeting on June 7 be
approved as presented. Ted Whiteman second. Motion carried.
Chairman Whiteman opened the meeting by welcoming the new men's
association representative Phil Gilman to the committee.
Old Business:
1) Cart Storage Update
Supt. Denham informed the committee that Mr. Wyman has constructed
the building that was required by the terms of his lease with the city. He has yet
to rent any of the spaces therefore the city has not received any proceeds.
Committee asked that staff produce a written report for the next meeting.
2) New 9 Update - #7 drainage
Supt. Denham reported that he had met with Pete O'neil to address the
drainage problems on the seventh fairway. The result of the meeting was that his
staff would perform the labor to install the pipe and rock. S.M.R. will cover the
cost for material and labor.
3) Tee Sign Proposal
The men's association did not reach an agreement with Mr. Johnson. They
voted to pursue other options. Currently they are negotiating with three other sign
makers to find the best solution. Jeff Goodman and Phil Gilman were asked to be
a sub- committee to monitor the outcome of the negotiations.
New Business:
1) Seat New Committee Member
This subject was moved to the start of the meeting.
2) City Street Cart Travel
Mr. Whiteman spoke of an incedent where he was stopped while driving
through town in his golf cart. There are several other people that also store their
carts at their homes. The committee agreed that the reason people need to store
their carts at home is the lack of facilities at the golf course. Further discussion
centered on whether golf carts are similar to snowmobiles on city streets.
Committee agreed that they are very much alike, yet golf carts are not allowed
on the streets. Mr. Whiteman will explore existing ordinances with the city
attorney and report at the next meeting.
Staff Reports:
1) Carl Hoss
Carl spoke of the need to investigate construction of a practice chipping
green area. He asked that Mr. Denham come up with a design for the area so
the wetlands issues can be addressed.
2) Charles Denham
Charles informed the committee that a letter from the ladies association
had been sent to Mr. Shimun. The letter adressed some safety issues and some
"cosmetic" issues. 90% of the items listed were addressed before Mr. Denham
received the letter. As for the Hydroject issue, there is alot of speculation as to
why the maintenence staff is not using the machine as regularly as some people
expect them to. The superintendent says the weather has been too wet for this
machine. The machine uses water injection to make the holes, so if the greens are
too wet to begin with it makes no sense to inject more water into them. There is
no "reluctance" to use the machine.
With no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:40pm.
